Sad part is, even if I could come up with that kind of money, paying that much for land, no way I would of farmed it and payed the mortgage. But it is nice to dream!

I also live in Oregon and the 150 acers across the street from me sold for 1.3 million, 3 years ago. Very neat place, log cabin from the 1800's, a 1920's farm house and a newer home, He runs cattle. As you said, a nice dream, but to much work and money. As for paying for the mortgage, he says its about $6000.00 a month. Nice, but not going to work for me.

Now have 25 acres plus an inherited 75 acres next county over.
In the future, we plan to have 25 acres and some money after selling the 75.
25 acres is more than enough to be self-sufficient (if we wish). Adding more just adds more to take care of, and we are way beyond the 25-40 age group when working hard seems fun and has few side-effects.
We are fortunate in that our 25 acres could also be developed if we wish to go that route.
In the farther off future, my wife wants to move into town. I'm trying to dissuade her from that idea, at least until after I am dead.

Have five. Would like to buy more. Problem here in eastern Ohio is that with the shale oil, nearly everyone has sold their rights to drillers. I would like to buy land without having someone have a claim on it. Used to be you could get good land for 5k per acre, now they sign over the rights and try to sell for four thousand an acre. A company can then come in and frack wherever they wish on your land. If I want more land I need to look west of Columbus.

21 acres, wooded/pasture, fenced, ponds, no neighbors close by, have access to a huge farm that borders mine for hunting and hiking, 100,000+ acres of national forest right here, rivers and springs....I won't buy anymore as I can be nearly self sufficent with what I have.

I have ten, but none of it is wooded. I think a minimum of 40 would be comfortable. If I could get land for $300/acre.....wow....I buy at least a section. I'd be so happy to have room to roam without people around! Land here in central Michigan runs around $4000/acre.

This used to be wheat field. Today it is forest. We have two parcels. One is riverfrontage and we got it for $900/acre. The other has no river access and we got it for $300/acre.
There is an adjacent parcel of forest with no river access, though it has some peat bog [I go over there to harvest peat], it is currently for sale asking $300/acre.

Our house sits on less than 2 acres but we just bought 70 acres a couple weeks ago. Mostly for DH to hunt on and our youngest DD and her DH plan to build on 20 acres( they have horses). 30 acres is clear cut and 40 is timber that will be ready to cut in 7 or 8 years. I have no desire to move to it as it is about 25 miles from where we live and have lived for 37 years. Plus we were raised here. I am trying to find about 10 acres closer by but if I don't I am happy with what I have. We are getting older and don't really want to work to hard. DH has health problems and is not able to do as much anymore.

We have just over 4 acres, part of which lays across the road from our home. This assures us that our beautiful view from the front porch will be preserved. We have almost an acre in garden, 20 blueberry bushes, 6 peach trees, an apple, and a pear tree.
Built a chicken tractor for 6 hens, my 30x40 shop, and my recent addition of a 16x36 loafing shed that I use to store tractor implements, lumber, and misc farm tools/supplies.
Our DD and DSIL just purchased a nice home on 14 acres just 1/4 mile from us. Aprox 10 miles to DS and family, 12 miles to both grandma's, and 15 miles to town.
Life is good.

Figure I'll be owning it untill either I die or get to old and can't maintain the +450' driveway come wintertime. If I get to be that old and/or feeble then I'd be looking for a gnd floor apt with niceities and utilities included...........

Hey, Micheal. Where abouts in NY? My wife and I are going to move to NY next year sometime.
