I don't know where your parents are, unregistered, but there's a guy over on the Barter Board right now taking orders for Anatolian Shepard puppies. He's in Texas.

We have a neutered lab-chow mix. I found him on the street when we lived in Dallas, he was maybe 8 weeks old. Despite a lot of effort to socialize him, he is very much a one-family dog (meaning, he is a teddy-bear to my husband and me, but not to anyone else). His hunting and guard-dog instincts are off the scale, and it is amazing how smart he is. He never seems to stop learning new words. He has an independent, stubborn attitude.

Owning a dog like him means he is never off-leash, he is under my control at all times. There is a benefit to this - I have to take him on jogs and hikes everyday, so I am getting plenty of exercise. I agree with the earlier post though - I wouldn't recommend a chow cross.
