There is a metal detector at the main entrance but it seems to me that I've entered from other floors/doors that were not monitored. It may be that the main door/floor is the floor that the courtrooms are on or something.

You have to check your sidearm at the detector. You put it in a lock box and retrieve it on the way out.

Vickie, well, you're right... courtroom security does end at the, um, courtroom.

But should you ever find yourself in such a position again and have concerns that your ex intends to do you bodily harm at the courthouse, don't hesitate to ask the court staff for an escort to your vehicle. Our deputies handled such requests all the time.

Yup.

And you have another firearm to use.

Nope, no netal detectors in our little Courthouse. All 4 doors are wide open. Rarely see a deputy in the halls. But we have a small, poor County.

I was very surprised recently when I escorted a pt to court; this is a fairly big city, and the security officer that I was with took off his belt, keys, etc., in order to get through without setting off the alarm. He is employed by the same facilty where I work, and he's done this many times and knew the routine. I put my purse on the conveyor belt and they handed it to me on the other side.

We got settled in the courtroom and I mentioned to the security guard that I was shocked that they allowed me in with the rather large knife that I always carry in my purse!

Drivers license at a Motor Vehicle Dept. We have several
Drivers license at the same place the MVD
Driver License renewal, on line now.
Property tax questions? I rent, and have rented all my life. And will continue to do so. Even when I go into a low income housing at some point in time.
Even when I registered for the draft way back when i went into the Federal building, not the area county courthouse, they are a separate building. But back in 1968 not even those buildings at that time had scanning going on.

Yes, for several years now. But as others said its a feel good thing. Couple old geezers in rent a cop uniforms running the metal detector. Probably working for minimum wage. They would just be first ones shot.

Usually no big deal or hassle to go through, take coins and keys and cell phone out of pockets and put in little tray, thats about it. One time though I wore denim jacket with the brass buttons. That thing drove metal detector crazy. None of us thought of the buttons, had my belt off and pockets turned inside out and everything. Made note to self to never wear that jacket anyplace with metal detectors.

Heck no. At our county courthouse, the door is usually propped open on sunny, warm days.

ROFL, ok, that gave me a good laugh!

Every state and every county is different... in the county where I worked, the security was all handled by our Sheriff's Department, and every bailiff was a Deputy Sheriff doing a turn in Court Services. They rotated through annually. They took their work very seriously.

In recent years, the Geezer Brigade has become an attractive option... court security is expensive.
