I traded 2 cases of mixed home canned foods for a EdenPure heater just on Saturday.
I love it, now I can lower my heating bills a bit and my friend has food for a month.

I am taking care of a woman's dogs while she moves, so she gave me a box full of chicken kitchen decor. I gave the canisters to my neighbor who always helps me out. She's a huge fan of chicken decor. in the box was a cast iron recipe book holder, with a rooster on it, and some rooster napkin holders. score!

I LOVE chicken decor and that's what I've used to decorate my kitchen! I have a chicken napkin holder too.

I love chicken decor also. My kitchen is chicken decor and antique kitchen utensils. cast iron spoons, forks, ladles, and stuff like that. and my friend makes hand quilted wall hangings, so I have a chicken wall hanging too. oh, and antique canning jars and blue jars.
stuff I've gotten at yard sales or traded for.

Would love to see a photo of your chicken wall hanging! You're so fortunate to have a friend like that!

I've got the antique canning jars and antique canning equipment too. So much that I've got jars in boxes in the garage and antique canning equipment put away too. Too much to display!

Awesome wall hanging! I'm so jealous! The colors in it are just perfect.

Love the cookbook holder too. I'll have to watch for one of those.

Thanks so much for sharing. Jules

If I can get the goods cheaper thru barter, than cash, yes... depends on a willing barterer and accepting barteree. I've made some fantastic scores thru barter. I prefer to give up my time, in exchange for real goods, versus using cash.

Just another warning- the IRS DOES consssider the value of barter as income and if you ever let them find out you're doing it they will add it to your income and you not only have higher tax but also interest and penalty. We may not like it, but it is the law.

We don't barter, we "neighbor." Barter means you have to keep track of things. Accounts payable and receivable. That kind of thing.

With neighboring, you just help someone out when you have the time or goods to give. They do the same for you.

when we barter we do keep track of it all. we report it to our tax preparer, so it is legal and above board.

And people have done jail time for it. Do not skip over tax avoidance.

Only the simplest things, like a bushel of apples for a bushel of squashes, seems to work easily. Swapping big items takes too long to find someone who has enough that you need or want.

I talked to a guy about hanging some drywall for me. He suggested we barter ... I told him I was married and I'll pay in cash thank you!

Check with your tax person. In Oklahoma, you can barter all you want & you don't pay taxes on what you bartered. You pay taxes only if you sold something for money.
