If you were to talk to my husband, he'd tell you it's to tick him off.

Winter is supposed to be a time to slow down and thus the sun is giving us huge clues! Start at sunrise, stop at sunset. It's the hurry, hurry culture trying to trick us into not taking that seasonal rest we all need.

I love it. It lets us read outside at night @ 9:30 PM and sunrise is still before 5:00 AM in the summer. In the winter in Montana I go to work @ 6:30 and leave @ 5:30 so I am travelling back and forth in the dark both ways. If I worked 8-5 it would still be the same for 2months a year.

If the day was over at sunset (Jewish tradition) you automatically had that side of "daylight savings time." If the day started at first light (Islam) then you had that side. Those who didn't want either of those figured when the sun was going to be highest in the sky, called that noon, and went from there.

You might as well argue over which side of the bread is up before you butter it. THe sun is goinna do what the sun does.
Thus, that means that the time changes serve absolutely no purpose. Myself, I seem to use the sun more than clocks. Actually I hate clocks. My ideal world will function without any clocks at all. So, we just get rid of these dumb time switches, and function on our own from there. I think we are all smart enough to know when to get out of bed and when to curfew.
