WOW, a lot of complaints here about what the poor DH's are doing. If my DW wants to complain about my mowing, then she'd best be prepared to do ALL the mowing in the future. (See, it works both ways, gals. lol)

My FIL has said the same, fertilize the heck out of it and it will go away.

Until that happens I was eradicating them myself, I spray with 2-4-d and with the drought it only killed some of them. So I was slowly but surely digging them up. The sticker heads themselves are seeds and replant themselves. So I was careful to dig them up.

Now, they are mowed and spewed everywhere.

BTW I have wool sheep, this is not a good combination.

Do you post this to everyone that complains about their spouses, or just me?
If it's just me, you're welcome to skip my post anytime you see them

I'm pretty sure my DH clanks and breaks dishes just so I will complain and then he can get out washing them. Same with painting, never seen a guy that you really don't want to ask to paint . . . I do all of the painting.

As for mowing, he better do a perfect job of it or I will complain, and kick him off MY zero-turn mower!

Yea, he's working real hard mowing . . .

Someone gave my MIL some pot seeds. Being the gardner she is, she planted them in a pot in her sun room and grew it. She decided that it was an ugly plant so instead of killing it (which would bring bad gardening luck, according to her) she tossed it all into my Dad's pasture. Fast forward 2 years and there's several little pot plants out there. I told my Dad what they were and he found out that it's harder than you think to get a bunch of pot plants out of the pasture and that when you decide to burn the pile of plants your college aged daughter will gladly help!

I've always done most of the mowing. if I'm not mowing, I'm really ill or broken.
I've been known to take the trash out on crutches.
If I screw up, you're likely going to hear it from me before you find it.
Everyone screws up, not everyone thinks they have a free pass cause they're opperating a machine.

Hate to be bearer of bad news, but 2-4-D will not kill Grass/Sand Burrs. You need a grass family herbicide, or Glyphosphate to control that plant.

Hmmm, is that how I get DH off my mower????

Really, my DH is a saint. My tenant, on the other hand, tested his bush hog on my newly planted blackberries and raspberries.

Different strokes is all I can say. My wife and I have had 29 years to perfect our roles. Here is our model:

DH (me) feeds "my" animals, goes to work 5 days a week, and does ALL the outside work in my free time.

DW (the queen) feeds "her" animals, stays home to manage the house, handles ALL the inside work, free time...what's that?

Shared duties include weeding and picking in the garden (after I've done all the tilling and planting)

We can each call upon the other when an extra hand is needed (as in: Dear can you put this platter back up in the top of the cupboard? (she is somewhat vertically challenged).

So, you see, all you gals saying "my mower" comes as a bit of a surprise to me. That's all. But hey, whatever works for you.

Nope, two different critters. Goatheads *IS* from the debbil.

Can you believe that we've not lived in NM for a year and a half and I STILL find those blasted thing in clothing?

What we call goatheads here are completely different than grassburrs. They grow on a vine that stays low to the ground, burrs only have 3-4 points, but longer and meaner than the other stickers. BTW, I saw grassburrs growing on the shore of Lake Erie that were almost waist high.

I have a John Deere mower that I went and picked out.
It's mine. It's been a real work horse and a good friend.
If you and yours have a different model of what is allowed for the sexes, I hope she's okay with it.

I HATE those kinds of stickers!!! My sister (older sister) used to throw those nasty things at me when we were kids. They hurt so bad I would just freeze up and start slowly pulling them out. If she tried that now, I would throw her skinny rump down in them! HAHAHA. Thanks for the memories. I use an old knife to dig into the center of the goat heads and get to the root of the problem. It worked well in the yard. Also we flood the yard and let the grass smother them. Good luck with those stickers!

Thanks for the info!! And yes we call them sand spurs around here. I havent ever seen a goathead till your pic. Thanks. I was told by a friend 2-4-d would work and as far as I can tell, it didnt and i blamed it on the drought possiblly to dry? However round up did kill them. Do you know of a pre-emergent to kill the seed heads?

Am i asking that right?

Also we do plan on fertilizing but that takes years to see the results. Until then I am digging them up, I'd rather dig, then dig them out of wool..ouch!!.LOL

Sorry to sound as if we were picking, just venting.
Hubby has a New Holland that he uses to brush hog the field, as you may or maynot know we've been in a drought. However we had 6 1/2 inches of rain.
hubby has been gone and just returned we had a talk about what I was doing out by the creek. And He was excited to get back on his tractor.
And then he mowed it anyway. It just felt like all my hard work in 120 degree temps was in vain. Sorry if you felt attacked

I mow the 2 acre yard with the husqvarna I purchased. He's a little rough with the mowers... and tillers and weed eaters all mine.....LMAO

Pre-emerge will take care of grassburrs. They are annuals, just usually come up around the old clump so they seem perennial.
