A heating pad, electric blanket, or a hot water bottle in the bed can really help cut heating expenses...

Invest in a good, or even an el cheapo walmartian special sleeping bag.

*Don't tell anyone... this is a huge secret* You don't have to have a 'warm room' to sleep at night. Your body makes all the heat it needs, and if you 'protect' that warmth, with a nice sleeping bag (I like the 'square' ones, you can unzip, and it lays out flat... cost? less than $20) you'll be toasty warm all night.

Better this, than an extra hundred bucks on the heating bill. 1500watts x 24 x 30 x 10c/kw = ~108 bucks. WOW!

Ive got a huge crochet blanket I made. Double strand 4ply. 1/2 inch thick. Woven tight, no gaps. Its warm and a fleece blanket. The electric went out for a couple of days last year. I had to peel it back some even when it was 30 degrees, in my room.
Ive got sleeping covered. I basically just want to keep my bedroom warm when Im up. I got space heaters to help warm up the kitchen while Im cooking. My hip likes warm heat.

------------------------

Im leaning towards the electric stove. Just run it for limited times, and on the coldest days. Last year it was a bit of an unexpected shock and sudden change over. This year it wont be quite the surprise.

Its just to get thru the year, I dont plan on it for a long term solution.

Thank you everyone. I will make it work.
