Around here we have Schwann's truck that delivers meat and Vegetables and fruit to anybody that wants it. The price is above what Wal Mart is but is very good quality and their truck is a regular freezer truck.

I moved to rural MN this past spring after 22 years in St. Paul. One afternoon a van pulled into the front yard. The guy's story was that a person who subscribed to a meat club wasn't home or died or something and couldn't take delivery so he had a few boxes of steaks and hamburger that he wanted to get rid of so he didn't have to haul them back to the plant. He showed me the meat, all nicely vacume packed. The steaks didn't look that good, more light pink rather than red. After I turned him down the price was cut by a third. As I looked at the package it said the company was located 2 blocks from my old house. I know the neighborhood and there is no such company.

After he left I called the neighbors that live in the direction he went and warned them. They said it was a frequent scam in the area and that the meat was dog food quality. Nice welcome to the neighborhood.

They use the freezers as coolers. Unless they have a small freezer truck which is rare. I wouldn't buy from them.

Yep, that's the guys that show up here too

I thought it might make sense to compare Capital Meats pricing to something I can get from my local meat market. They did not have the exact cuts of meat (Bacon wrapped sirloin vs fillet mignon) but I think the prices in general are still interesting.

Capital Meats sale price
NY Strip $34.23 a pound
T-Bone $33.17 a pound
Sirloin Fillets $21.66 a pound

Cacciatore Brothers sale price
NY Strip $3.99 a pound
T-Bone $ 6.99 a pound
Fillet Mig. $ 7.99 a pound

The guys here used to pull up in my driveway under the trees. They'd take a break, then walk back to the house about 80 ft (extremely tiny vernacular architecture), and start yelling. If my small dog was out under the house, she'd give them the business and get rid of them. And she loved meat!!! If I heard, they'd give me a spiel...they never once had a cooled/refrigerated anything, in South Louisiana heat! I used to suggest they try someone who didn't live in a tiny shack who might have the $1000 (for the mythical side of beef) they were looking for! Unreal. Used to think they were casing houses for robberies, as they never made a sale near me. ldc
