Really good restaurants make their soup bases from scratch.
Most restaurants however use soup bases that they get from one of their providers
Many soup bases can be found in the soup aisle of most grocery stores, usually on one of the top shelves, bigger stores will usually carry more varieties beside just the usual beef and chicken (like; vegetable, ham, mushroom, clam).
Sams club also sells them (probably Costco too, but I don't have a membership there to know)

I always keep Beef and Chicken base from Sams in my fridge to make soups, gravys, etc with. I also have Ham base from Kroger for cooking greens.
