Herrero needs to talk to Jack Hanna. While the articles about his group being charged by a young grizzly don't give exact numbers it does sound there were 6 or more in it.
Sounds like there were 5 people in the group.

Try that playing dead junk for a black
bear and see what happens. NC has
lots of bears, and big ones. We average
the biggest blacks anywhere. Every now
and then one decides to eat someone.
Last one I specifically remember was in
a city park in Andrews.

So now bears are packing guns? Must be another one of those ATF gun running experiments. Gats for Grizzlys or Kalishnakovs for Kodiaks.

This horse is the best kind of horse: a QH and cold blood cross. I had a horse who looked exactly like him - we thought he was a QH/Percheron, and he was totally fearless. I think he would have done what this horse did. They are both true heroes.

Western NC bears rarely hibernate. Eastern bears
never do. They just prowl around all winter and eat.
Thats why 6-7 hundred pounders are not so uncommon
in the east.

yeah, that's why in the east they have 300 & 400 clubs that set those as the minimum kill weights.

If I was getting eaten alive by a grizzly, I might want a mercy shot. Just Sayin. Reminds me of Jerry Clower's story of John Eubanks in the tree fighting with a with a bobcat sayin... "just shoot in here amongst us....one of us got to have some relief!. "

That said, I try and steer clear of anything that outweighs me, and can eat me.
