I just ran into this and I think its a great idea. Is it still going to be at Lakepoint? My DH and I stay there sometimes and go fishing. It is one of my favorite fishing lakes. Just let us know if it is still on so we can make reservations.Plus I will have to see what days I'm on duty and get someone to cover for me. It would be wonderful to meet everyone I read so much about.

Aunt Kitty,
Maybe we need a survey so we can vote and see where is the location the most people can attend? That way we will know if we can go or not, distance wise...

Just a thought,
SBJ

Still interested here ! If I figured it right DH should be off on the 22nd. We can drive to Lakepoint or Seminole, and Dothan is about 15-20 min away. Will be watching this for more details.

Just found out I am getting laid off at the end of this month so there will be no trips for me right now. If someone else wants to step up and finish organizing this, that would be great!

Has anyone thought to just make a day of it, bring things from home to make it not cost so much. Just have a picnic and meet people.

Anyone up North like me and Carol? If you can't go to the big planned get together next weekend you're more than welcome to come by my place and meet Carol and me. We are having a BBQ Saturday the 22nd for some family and friends and as we were planning the menu we thought it would be great to extend the invitation to anyone else who wants to BBQ. It will be pot luck style at my house~ just bring a dish of some kind to share with us and we will share our stuff with you~ so far we are planning to serve:
Wild Blackberry cobbler from our pastures
Homemade vanilla ice cream from our goat milk
Some kind of homegrown beef, pork, and chicken dish as these are the three animals we are harvesting here on the farm this week and they will be featured on our menu
If you have a special dish to contribute we would love to meet you and try it~ if not well then we will have soda pop and beer but more is always welcome!

PM me or CarolT to get directions to the house~ we would love to BBQ with you!
Cheryl

sorry I missed it. Didn't see this entry til today and we are staying in Asheville, NC for a fall folliage viewing. Maybe next year...or when it gets really cold and everyone wants to visit Florida, LOL.....we have lots of campgrounds. Our camping club has its annual rally at Stephen Foster Cultural State Park near Lake City. It's a lovely campground.

We won't likely be able to come this year either. Since there was a bit of uncertainty, we accepted the invitation of some beloved elderly friends to join them at an event.

Maybe we can schedule something with a little more lead time. I would love for there to be an AL/FL/GA meet 'n greet. I "do" events and would be glad to check into/help/ or plan, if we have something a little more concrete & a little lead time.

If this weekend works out for some of you....think of the rest of us !!

AuntKitty, depending on just where you are in N FL, we might can work something out. I am 10 minutes from FL or GA...rigggght down there almost in the corner...LOL.

Hi everyone!
Landmark Park was interesting and the weather was great! I spent a good bit of time looking around at the other people wondering if maybe there was someone from Homesteading Today there. If there was, I couldn’t tell. Which leads me to this post…

On the Survival forum awhile back there was a post about meeting others from the board, and the question of how to identify ourselves came up. There were a couple of good ideas (wearing a Homesteading Today T-shirt or an HT bracelet), and even a couple of funny ideas (sneaky snake hand shake and the groovy decoder ring), but walking around Landmark Park I had one of those “Duh” moments. This is so easy, cheap, and fast I don’t know why we didn’t think of it before. When there is a get together, or some kind of occasion where other HT members might be present, just get one of those “Hi, My Name Is” stickers and put it on your shirt. Write HT on it and you’re done! Now we can spot each other!

That’s just too easy, isn’t it? The season for fall festivals is starting, so you all get your labels out.

Hope to see you around,
SBJ

I'm sorry we couldn't get down there~ we did BBQ up here and I while I was disappointed not to see even more people it was barely controlled choas here anyway (I like beer and I'm loud sober....) Anyway~ maybe next time it would be better to plan it at someones house. It just seems easier~ to me anyway. But then~ I always like to plan these kinds of things at my house~ less far to stumble for me after all that beer!
