We've been to the heritage festival in the past, and it's excellent. I think that would be a great weekend.

Seminole State Park is a beautiful Georgia state park just over the state line on Lake Seminole. It would probably be an hour or so drive from there to Landmark Park.

Sounds interesting. Landmark Park is very nice, but I don't think it has a camping area. Would still be a great place for a day gathering...

I'm game but can't do it the weekend of Oct. 8th. Most any other time is fine though!

I can meet/greet anywhere, cabins are appreciated! as I don't have camping stuff up here in Huntsville, it is all down at my farm in GA and I have it packed up.

A day trip would be good as well.

Seminole has a campground and cabins, and is the nicest park within easy driving distance of Landmark Park.

Seminole State Park is having a harvest festival that same weekend (10/21) but there are still 23 40' sites available which will fit up to 2 tents on a site, RVs or pop-ups. There are cabins for $115 or so and some allow dogs. Do we want to go ahead and plan for that weekend? Does anyone else have any suggestions for where to stay? Seminole looks good to me because there is alot to do there and it is short driving distance to Dothan, etc.

Sidepasser you are welcome to room with me. I have an 8 person tent (which really means 4 skinny people) so there is plenty or room!

Since this is only 5 weeks away I am going to suggest an itinerary here and see what everyone else thinks.

Friday evening - Arrive, set up, dinner together, maybe everyone bring their own burger and a side and we'll grill out, campfire if allowed due to drought, get acquainted, etc.

Saturday - Everyone go to Heritage Festival at Dothan, in a group if we want, lunch there, then dinner together at campground or out somewhere, campfire and camaraderie

Sunday - Breakfast together, maybe church services will be held at the campground (some of them do), more visiting, break camp at your own pace.

If this get together goes well, maybe we can plan a longer one (4 day weekend?) in the Spring with informal "classes" on gardening, canning, food storage, keeping chickens, goats, whatever anyone wants to share/learn. And of course getting to know our fellow HTers!

Your thoughts?

All the cottages are booked for that weekend due to the Heritage Festival I guess. There is one cottage available for the 22nd but you have to plan to stay two nights (it's required to stay in the cottages). Kitty I would have to stay with you or in a local hotel that weekend. Will check to see if Mr. B would like to come, if so, we would have to get a hotel locally and join everyone Sat AM as we both have to work on Friday. Seminole is about a 7 hour drive for me. A little long to try to make it after work.

Looks like fun! I couldn't afford a place to stay and a 4 hour drive to Dothan was stretching it to the max for me, so the extra hour is going to make it a no go here Bummer. Maybe there will be something in north Ga or Tn someday...

ETA: OK, reread and everyone is going to Dothan Saturday, so I'll have to keep trying to work it out...

Ok, let's look for a campground a little further north that doesn't have it's own event going on that same weekend. I'll let you know what I find.

How about White Oak Creek Campground in Eufaula AL? It would be about 50 min drive to the Heritage Festival on Saturday. My Dad's Good Sam camping club goes to this campground and loves it.

I might be interested. I live about 20 miles from Dothan.

Lakepoint Resort in Eufaula has 75 full hook-up sites at 29.70 each, and 50 water/electric only for 23.10. Anyone over 62 gets a 15% discount.

Lakepoint's also less than an hour to Landmark.

I'm about 20 miles from Columbus (on the AL side). If it's in Eufaula, I could certainly drive down for the afternoon, but we couldn't stay the night (DH's work schedule).

If that's cool, I'm in!

I hope we can get in on this too. All locations mentioned so far are easily doable. Lakepoint is a good choice. There's also a wildlife preserve close by and it's only a few miles into Eufaula, with lots of food choices & shopping, if needed.

Sounds like fun !!

Does the Eufaula campground make travel more feasible for any of those who said Lake Seminole was too far? Also we don't have to go to the Heritage Festival if an hour's drive each way seems too far....

Kitty

Ps. Thanks for making this a sticky Cabin Fever!

Lakepoint's good with us, and we're fine either way on Landmark as well.

Landmark Park is probably the only thing I could get to (something daytime), as we wouldn't be camping. But whatever is best for the most people...

There is also Mule Day in Calvary, Ga the first Saturday of November. Lots of arts and crafts, a parade, even a mule show with driving, plowing, and other competitions, a petting zoo, cane syrup on sale--something for everyone. Calvary is about 35 minutes north of Tallahassee, FL and 20 minutes south of Cairo, GA on Hwy 111.

People show up a week or two early to get the best camping spots (RV camping). There is a chicken perlou on Friday night and usually a small auction and a country western/gospel sing, then Saturday starts with breakfast at 6:00 (different groups sell different things, but mainly pancakes and sausage or biscuits and sausage). Arts and crafts booths are open all day and the parade starts at 11:00. It's the biggest festival in the area and is always well attended.

Just thought I'd mention it if anyone is interested in meeting there...
