we lived in a teeny house way out in "Nowhere Wyoming" when I was a kid, and the house had running water and electricity and a big clawfoot tub. A big coal burner KIND OF kept the house warm in the winter...there were sheds out back for coal and kindling. people dumped their ash piles at the curb. I jumped over one and landed in the coals and burned my foot really bad one time. I went to a two room country school. Our washing machine was a wringer washer on the screened in back porch. I remember my mom doing laundry in it. I was in first grade then, I am 45 now. we hung our laundry on a line in summer. I don't remember what we did in the winter. probably dried it by the coal burner stove. I also remember mom had a record player, that was an enclosed huge cabinet thing.
actually I think it was called Acme, Wyoming. that was a real long time ago!
