Hi NC, I don't have any turkeys right now, they went to "camp"....but a friend of mine has about 40 turkeys who are laying now.( he has a silkie trying to hatch 5 turkey eggs right now) What kind are you looking for? He does not have any BB White, but all the other breeds(wild, palm, bronze, about 7 types in all) He is about 1 hour north east from me....sounds pretty close to you. Are you near Lake Scugog? ( Janetville or Lindsay)I will ask if he would sell / ship eggs & the price, get back to ya soon!

On May 8th @ the "Chicken Barn" in Fenlon Falls,< about 2 1/2 hours from T.O.>--- then on May 9th in Uxbridge < about 1 hour from T.O.>...don't know exact local yet.(Uxbridge is small enough that most folks would know where to direct ya) I plan on going, so maybe I'll see ya there!

I live in South Canada, or Northern Minnesota if you will. Same short seasons, same cold weather, same harsh farming situations, but with idiot puppet government run by big business, news media controlled by 5 major Conservative owners, and a generally cultural isolationist " We're God's give to the rest of the world" attitude.
I enjoy reading the posts from those of you living in the "free world" to the North.

Boucher Lake Road BC
Hi Canadaians!
We're up here on the Boucher Lake Road, near Moberly Lake, north of Chetwynd, about three hours north on east of Prince George, BC, about 1100 km north of Vancouver. You do all know where Vancouver is, right.
Well forget Vancouver, it is so peaceful and open, and like the "Serengheti Plane" of BC, as they say. We are just east of the Rockies. Lovely country, friendly people, full days and joys of all the light and changes that happen every minute here. Sorry, we love it here.
Its a Quarter Section, and our 30 year old log house is here. We have about 55 acres ready for seeding to oats this year, maybe 65 next year, to oats and hay next year.
Time for "supper", bye.
Alex

Hello!
We are moving temporarily to Nova scotia this summer. We are smallholders/homesteaders in the UK (or were until we sold our farm) and have bought a homestead in Nova scotia where we hope to live full time someday.
Just wanted to say hello and touch down with some canadians/homesteaders who maybe able to advise on various things.
We would like to build a polytunnel this year but wondered how it would stand up to the heavy snow over the winter? would the polythene stretch and would the frame have to be made stronger? any advice would be appreciated!!
Many thanks
Carolyn

I'm in Orillia, Ontario (just south of it, actually). Anyone heading down highway 11 can wave at me on the way by, literally!
53 acres, mostly forested & wetland, and a large house that we're converting into an educational facility about reptiles, amphibians, and fish of Ontario. Pics at www.scisnake.com/scales.html
Cheers,

Hey all from sask. and the rest of Canada. Down near Moose Jaw, and things are picking up for us at a fast pace just put my order in for some isa brown chicks and also picked up three red sussex hens at johnstone auction on Sunday. First time for us with any animals and we are loving this. Been a long time coming.
We've got things ready to go with the garden when she warms up, and got the giants in the ground three weeks ago. Got the provincial record last year for largest pumpkin and largest squash 727lbs and 697.5lbs. so hoepfully we grow a new personal best to beat that (snicker) I just can't seem to give up my pumpkin patch to grow more veggies, we've got more space than we need for our preserve veggies any ways.
Well 5:00am comes quick got to run, later all. Any one wanting to chat or pass ideas on homesteading in Canada, we'd be happy to meet you.
Send any e-mail to giantveggies@shaw.ca

Hi all is there anyone that might sell goat milk in Sask. In the Regina, Yorkton area need it to make soap.
Sure could use some rain here and some warm weather they say the last frost is going to be on the 15th. Think I will wait to put the tomatoes in til the 20th or so tho. The rest of the veggies are on the porch waiting to be planted also. Set the first batch of eggs yesterday of Silver Laced Wyndottes so hoping for a good hatch.

Hi all...I'm in central Sask too...close to Saskatoon. Very Very dry where we are. It's snowing today just a bit south of us but sunshine at our place.
We are pretty worried this year about our well because the climate has been dry for far too long now! We've already lost at least a quarter of our trees.

It's been months since I've checked in here to see what is happening, so it's nice to see a Canada entry on the board. Tracy Rimmer: you asked where I'm located, we are near Erin, about 20 minutes from Georgetown. Long way from Gravenhurst, but I know it's a lovely area, been up there a few times.
Carolyn from UK: you mentioned you were going to try setting up poly tunnels, check out the book "Four-Season Harvest" by Eliot Coleman. He is located in Maine, so they get "winter" there too. I know he has a web site but I can't remeber it right now. My husband and I have just got the frame for a 25 x 50 foot tunnel which we are hoping to assemble soon, then we have to find some where to purchase the coverings (inexpensively!).

$even11, has your area done anything to prepare for a possible Avian breakout? I assumed it would stay out west, but I was warned by my Poultry teacher to expect it here. All of my friends want to go out & see the birds,I didn't realize this was a no-no. I figured because all my friends are cityfolk, they would not come into contact with the virus. I am taking steps to have something right @ the pen door. It was suggested having spare shoes might be a way to protect the birds......Oh & I went to the auction & came home with nothing. There was a "Japanese" roo (very handsome) went for $40,then a few silkie roo's went for $17.50! I had just given my 3 silkies & 2 layers away to a friend- I'll sell them next time. I REALLY wanted the Nigerian Pigmy goat & a miniture pig (not a pot belly) but dear sweet DH would have none of it---party pooper.<Gravenhurst is absolutely gorgeous, but the black flies....yuk! Broke down there & had to stay for a few days, we were eaten alive.)
