Mice - Homesteading Questions
a single drivey terrier will kill more in a day than any cat will in a month w/o killing 4X as many birds.

We set a box of Dcon poison or "tom cat" poison under a milk crate in our basement. We weight the milk crate down so just in case the cats get in there then they cannot reach the poison.

We use the Peppermint Oil too with great results. Usually that is enough but in January a man bought an old house near us and started to renovate it. Hundreds upon hundreds of rats and mice took off and came to my house and Cabins! Since February we have had to set out 46 boxes of poison between four houses! It just slowed down last week. Even with the Peppermint, we had to use the poison.

Good luck!

Sorry, but mice _do_ have bladders. The males leave scent trails of urine, but whoever told you that probably believe raccoons have no saliva... (Yes, raccoons do have saliva)

What happens when a cat or dog eats a poisoned mouse?

depends on what the poison is, but it usually isn't good.

I put a mix of 3 parts corn meal, 1/2 part salt, 1 part yeast, and 3 parts plaster of paris on a bucket lid under my table in the shed. It really thins them down. i guess it bloats them.

An exterminator told me that when it causes the mouse to die, it goes inert. They had to change it to stop secondary poisoning. Do I trust poison to know this? No. However, haven't heard of secondary poisoning lately.
