On the wet wing thing.... I have sprayed these yellow jackets with the hose before &, even drenched they are only slowed down for a millisecond, then they are up & going again!

Love the planet, try not to use chemicals when I can, but in regards to wasp, I use wasp spray & don't feel bad about it
Have you tryed the dawn detergent in a spray bottle? It grounds the wasps. I keep a can of chemical for emergencies but the dawn is cheap, and I'm not worried about breathing it.

Shrek: nice tip on the home-made trap.

As yellow jackets build their nest inside something or the ground, I would think it would be hard to get them all wet at once. I don't know how well it works on them, as I have never tried it. I posted about wetting down red wasps. Their nest is out in the open and it's very easy to drench them all at once. They will not fly off once wetted down for a few minutes.

SPECTRACIDE PRO......We get ours at Home Depot. Used to have a terrible wasp problem, but for 2 years we have had none. You spray their nest in the coolest part of the day and leave it. It instantly kills anything in it and when others come back it kills them. Before long they move on. We look for nests as soon as the weather warms in the spring and spray them. This is the only thing that has really worked for us.
