Warrens would certainly be a drive for me. I am so glad she is back. I am sure she will come to you for milk when she gets hungry enough. Poor baby. She must have been scared out of her mind.

Great news that you got her in a pen and settled. You should sit down with your feet up and take a long nap!!!

Glad that it had a happy ending. Take care and enjoy her!

Walking slowly and keeping your arms still at your side is a good plan to approach young animals. Something about swinging your arms while walking alarms them. I've walked up to several young fawns doing it what way. But if I move my arms, they take off.

I've got a DD in Sparta with 4 children, 8,9,10, and 14 who probably could lend you a hand if the timing worked out.

In fact she will be driving east to west through Black River Falls in an hour from now-----------
Let me know if I should make contact with her to check out the possibilities~~~~~

I didnt sleep last night. Kept hearing her moo. Kept waiting to see if she was coming to my window. Vedt is on stand by but thinks she will be ok. Her poops are still solid and she is still full of spunk. We will open the holding pen in the pasture tonight and get her to go in there.
I think we are good for now with all the help aspect. I am greatfull for all the offers. I Will call if ineed help later. Would love to meet more hst people. Just pm me your numbers and Ill keep them stored. Olsola my calf came from over in that area. HEHE
My feet are so cut up. They sting and burn I have spent most of the day digging thorns out of my feet. My shoes were in my car and I only had my garden clogs on in which I ran out of them and and lost them somewhere. I ran threw old metal, downed trees, and black berry briers. Not tot mention barbed wire fencing. I didnt quite feel it at the time. But Im utd on my tetnus. Im looking foward to a long soak in my big tub later.
I willhave a nap today I vow.

Oh so glad you caught your calf. I had to chuckle at the image of you running barefoot and pregnant after your calf. 7 years ago I did the same, after a young donkey. I was also 9 mos pregnant at the time and the donk was only 8 mos old and WILD!!

My story had a happy ending... the donkey is my best friend now and DS turned out ok too. Good luck with your calf!!!

I'm so glad you've got her home and safe. Please give your midwife/OB a call about your feet being so cut up by debris. Your normal immune system is weakened right now and they may want to see your feet or have you take a round of prophylactic antibiotics.

LOL, not sure about that. If she were mine, I'd probably name her "---- YOU COME HERE!!"

So pleased that it has turned out well and hope you can now spend the time with her so that she will become the cow of your dreams.

Butterfly, no. Too much of a mouthful when calling her but Fly, yes. My mother, a scotch woman, used to say thing like "Och, she was a fly one" meaning that she was smart. In this case, your calf was fly enough to come back and also fleet enough of foot to fly ahead of you. Or have I just got an over-active imagination?

Cheers,
Ronnie

Ouch! I hear you about the feet! I had to chase my 18 month old heifer a couple weeks ago. Barefoot, down the road, fat older lady, with a little corgi, chasing a heifer who decided this was a very fun game! Glass, thorns, and metal....why are they always in the way! (Clover now has a new strand of electric tape!)

Is your calf even still alive? I admit I don't know anything about cattle, but I've been around them on ranches and a one month old calf is still nursing. She's been loose for 4 days and even in a pasture, she probably isn't old enough to graze and is probably on her last legs. I don't think a one month old can even drink from a trough. If you can't catch her, it would probably be better to shoot her instead of her dying slowly of hunger and thirst.

Oh I AGree 11%.
Get a bottle feed it with YOU Hanging on. And at the same time pet rub scratch the calf. And that bottle will be the trick in my bo ok. I have one now that just Wants Her Bottle~!!! Just like a baby and a pacifier.
I don't even mix milk in it, just water she drinks if like it was the best thing on earth. Yes I know for a fact she is drinking out of the Water tank. So it isn't that she is not getting water. And Comes a running at the Sight of the bottle. Comes running right to ME.
She just Wants Her Bottle LOL
