That is SWEET! DH designed and built us a Hydraulic Log Splitter. Since he is only cutting wood for us, this works great. He can do 2nd growth with it, but still has to muscle the rounds. It works vertical/horizontal and is fast. With just DH working the splitter, after cutting the rounds, it took him two "short" days to do 5 cords. I call them short, due to 12 hours being his typical work day (he put in 6 hours/day working on the wood, since he had other work to do). I can't get him to slow down unless I challenge him to a competition. Tomorrow, we are doing a weed competition, LOL. That is the lightest work he will have done this week. We get our wood mostly from our property, just took out 12 more trees a few months ago. Otherwise, the rest is usually free. DH was asked to take down a number of 2nd growth trees. He get them, so will cut up most into firewood and then some will be saw logs. That takes care of all the wood we will use for probably two years (assuming we will use 9 cords like we did last Winter).

Never seen a process that uses a shear....always a chain/bar run by a hydraulic motor. Been thinking about building one myself if the firewood business picks up around here.

I use a small splitter I built.....just replaced the 8hp Tecumseh engine that it used for years with a new Honda...what a dream engine....starts every time with one pull, and very stingy on gas.
We use about 4 cords/yr. Built couple of these portable sheds and I tow them around to wherever our woods need thinning for that year to fill.

Dang, Andy. Those are some awfully purty sheds to just be coverin' firewood. Good job.
