So, if Cabin Fever buys it, are we going to set up a chain of HTers from Florida to Minnesota to drive it up there?

Now I am really excited. I don't know if I should put in my maximum bid now or right before the auction ends. Part of me feels like I should delete this thread so no one else reads it and bids against me....of course, that would not be fair.
Dear Lady, I am in your debt. You have not heard the last from me. If I am lucky enough to win this, then hopefully we will be lucky enough to also meet you and your Marine.
Jill you are an example of the why this forum is special. It is people like you who go out of their way to help others that makes this forum great.
Thank you and your Marine for your service to out country and thank you for going above and beyond for helping me.

Sweet ride. I agree with Ryan -- wait until right before the auction ends to put in your max bid. Otherwise someone will outbid you by just a few $$.

Okay I will wait with my max until tomorrow night. I just hope that someone in the mean time doesn't bid more than my max.
Just so you all know, the very first vehicle I ever bought was I had a 1953 Willys jeep, Korean War era. I bought it and drove it home when I was 17 in the middle of February. I never came so close to freezing to death. The Jeep had only a canvas roof...no side doors.
To say the least, my Dad was outraged! He called the guy I bought it from and made him take it back on accounta I was minor and not of legal age to buy a vehicle. I had that Jeep for one weekend and always wanted one since then. This may be my chance!
You would think that my Dad - a WWII veteran - would have seen things differently. Of course, maybe he didn't want any reminders of the War.

Cabin Fever,
First of all, it was our pleasure! It was a little 20 minute trot down the road and to see the other restorations was like visiting a tiny museum.
Second: when we say "bid your maximum right at the end" we mean RIGHT at the end! You need to physically be at the computer, watching the listing. It will count down the seconds for you. What I've had success with is to type in my bid at about 3:00min left, click "place bid", and then you will see a screen that says "confirm bid?" DON'T click CONFIRM BID until the auction is at about 20 seconds left!!! THEN, IMMIDIATELY go BACK to the main listing page and you will have a new, tiny little link that says "1-click bid" sitting just to the left of the original bid box. CLICK THAT!! then, in the very last seconds of the auction, you can click ONE button to automatically increase your bid by $5.00 or $10.00 (not sure what the 1-click bid increment is on vehicle auctions). That way, even if you click the "1-click bid" 9 or 10 times in those last 12 or 14 seconds of the auction, you've only really gone over your "maximum" by less than $100.00.
You may want to PRACTICE this on a tiny auction of something you want....some cheap drill bits or a few kitchen towels or something so you get what I'm saying! Seriously!

Lol, copperkid, no! I've just been an eBay buyer and seller since 2003, I know how to get what I want at the cheapest price possible, and hardly ever get outbid....because I'm pretty hardcore about my timing and "being there" for the ending of auctions I'm bidding on. I learned the hard way for the first few years, getting outbid by a DOLLAR on something I really wanted. On this item that Cabin Fever wants, wouldn't getting outbid by $5.00 just bite?? Count on the fact that nobody else knows the timing thing very well; that they will throw their max on at 15minutes left and then sit back and cross their fingers, or go make dinner, or something....

Another way to bid at the last minute is called sniping. You can enter your bid on a website and set it to automatically submit the bid a set time before the auction ends, usually up to the last 3 seconds. It's a gray area with eBay and some sellers don't like it, but as far as I know it isn't against the rules. It also takes a little faith in the sniping site, though. Check out http://www.snipestreet.com.

I was beat out using a dial-up connection to bid on a truck. Waiting till the end is risky for a rare item you really want.
Good Luck!

Nice job Jill. I think many of us have equipment trailers...maybe we could relay transporting the Jeep. I would just like to see it and would be happy to take a leg.

Make sure your bid amount isn't a round number! Make it like $5976.99 or some such....

My bid was $5710.99
The winning bid was $5810.99
If for some reason the winner fails to pay, I assume the seller will offer it to me as I was the 2nd highest bidder.
Or maybe it just wasn't meant to be....I can live with that.
Thanks Jill for all your help!
