101 here today.....

I know...I know....not too long ago we had thread after thread of 'too much rain' complaints. :bdh: I want to be the first one to complain about the heat! :grumble:

This is the hottest it's been since we moved here - thankfully minus the humidity of the south! The sheep are panting in the shade. The cows stayed low to the ground in what used to be a wet spot.....Poor babies!

Can anyone send some pity?

Cabin Fever 06/07/11 09:32 PM

Our forecast for the next seven days is highs in the mid to upper 60s and lows in the 40s. :)

Danaus29 06/07/11 09:34 PM

I may have to move to Minnesota!

Hot here too, but then any time the temp is above 78*F I'm too hot. I think our high was around 90.

How Do I 06/07/11 09:37 PM

95°F here today http://i56.tinypic.com/2ni1sp5_th.gif I'll just settle for some ice cream :icecream:

gone-a-milkin 06/07/11 09:38 PM

Poor sheepies and cows. I will send you a heap of pity for your critters. :D

We have had the mid-90's for a week. It takes adjusting, but I do prefer it over winter. :)

I am such a baby, I could freeze to death next to a fan in the summer.
I would rather sweat then shiver. :)

Cabin Fever 06/07/11 09:53 PM

When I shiver I put on a jacket. When I sweat I can't get nekkid enough.

7thswan 06/08/11 06:07 AM

Today, it is going to be even hotter. I've aready put the containers in the freezer for the bunnys. Be carefull everyone.

SFM in KY 06/08/11 06:23 AM

I complain about the heat here in KY every summer. I've lived most of my life in MT and the few warmer places have been desert/high desert so never had to deal with humidity. When I moved here I expected I would adjust ... kept pushing it and all that happened was I kept getting sick!

At 80 degrees, in full sun, I'm through. Have to be inside in the A/C and for the last two weeks that's been (at best) around 9:30 or 10 AM ... after that I can go out 10 or 15 minutes at a time for quick chores ... water tomato plants ... top off rabbit waterers ... but that's it. Even worse, for me, it doesn't cool off in the evening so I can't go out then either ... all I can do is get frustrated because I can't get done what needs to be done, grit my teeth and endure.

Like Cabin Fever said, when I shiver I can put on more clothes. There's nothing you can do to deal with the heat.

That is my problem also, I get sick, puckie sick. So I go in and drink water, the house is air condutioned, because my Dh's lungs. Getting cooled off abit often helps. If I ignore going in-bam,it hits me then I'm done.

seagullplayer 06/08/11 06:59 AM

The forecast for Louisville today is a new all time high for the day if it makes it, yesterday we missed it by 2 or 3 deg.

They say some relief this weekend...

hmsteader71 06/08/11 08:19 AM

It is to be 102 heat index here today. I went out at 5:30 this morning and worked until 6:45 planting more of the garden and I was still sweating!
I prefer cooler weather like Fall or Spring if we even had those seasons anymore. Dh HATES the cold. So he is loving this weather. I have to keep it a little warmer inside or he is too cold.
I was out working in the garden Monday afternoon and thought I'd go in and rest a minute then go back out and work some more. Nope! I about passed out in the garden when I went back out. It was too hot and I'm getting too old.

Curtis B 06/08/11 09:21 AM

I would give pitty, but since we have had 103, then 100, then 102, and today is supposed to be 100+ again. We didn't get much of anything for rain this year, and I think spring lasted 2 hrs sometime in early April. Sorry, just can't do it.

No pity here... it was 100 yesterday, and today it was 80 at 7:00 am....
At least last night we had a heck of a storm roll in and watered things real good.

Look at the bright side.... it's swimmin/tubin season!!

Rita 06/08/11 09:49 AM

The last 10 days or so have been near record breakers in the 90's. At least we cool off at night here on the mountain. Need rain too!

Our Little Farm 06/08/11 09:57 AM

I woke up this morning and it was 59 outside. It's mid morning and is now 69. I've been working outiside in the garden and am about to head out again. There is a lovely breeze.

I do not cope well in a place with high humidity or temps like some of you are having! We had one weekend that was a scorcher here. Memorial weekend stayed in the 90s and it was awful. Very unusual for here.

Hope it cools down for you!

sisterpine 06/08/11 10:03 AM

No pity here either, would love to have some heat- expecting 55 and rain again I think the state is going to wash away! sisterpine who is happy it has at least stopped snowing for the time being!

Fowler 06/08/11 10:08 AM

100 here yesterday...thank goodness the sheep are at least sheared...However no Rain...and the grass is starting to die already!! and it's only June!!..Hay will be big bucks this year I am afraid.
Maybe an AC in their stalls is not at bad idea....LOL!!!

I am with you on this. We lived in Alaska for years and I swear I wasnt warm ever even in the summer and I much prefer the heat.

As for the OP, I would trade you your 101 temps with low humidity though for our 95 degree 75% humidity. The air is so thick you can rest a paper plate on it...its so hot and sticky the ticks are all floating on sticks in the pond, its so hot......you get the picture!

Heritagefarm 06/08/11 10:15 AM

Mostly lower 90's here. Doesn't really bother me. I'm a warm-weather kind of person.

Well now, I think I see the problem.... There is a difference between taking off ones clothes and being naked, and taking off ones clothes and being "nekkid"..... the term nekkid is used when one is naked... and up to something... which causes sweating even in cold climates. ;)

insocal 06/08/11 11:58 AM

It's WAAAAYYYYY too early in the year to be 101 in MI.

JMHO.

Meanwhile, our year of unusually cool weather is embarking on another go-round. It's still sweater weather here.

Callieslamb 06/08/11 12:05 PM

It's supposed to repeat today....but TOMORROW!!! mid-70's. I have a broody hen in the barn that's gonna have to go outside so she doesn't die of heat. And a batch of chicks under a HEAT lamp....gotta move them also. We are very fortunate to have 60% humidity rather than 95%. We're going to move DS's trampoline to the sheep pasture. he turns a sprinkler on underneath it while he plays. Hopefully, they will find that the damp under there is cooler than the side of the barn when DS goes back to the house.

Kazahleenah - we could use some of that rain! Storm systems seem to split and go around us north and south. Earlier, we were happy to miss Kalamazoo's and South Bend's tornadoes, now it's coming back to bite us.

Won't be any pity coming from Texas -- we'll be mainly in the 100's days and 90's at nites through August.

You'll have what, 2 or 3 days then back down to the 80's?

geo in mi 06/08/11 12:27 PM

Gonna wait one more day to see if it rains tonite, then it's time to turn on the water to get the rest of the things I planted to germinate--and to save the strawberries...... Just got the ground loosened up from all the cool temps and hammering rains of a couple of weeks ago. I'm not quite ready to call it global warming, but, yes, it's too early to have this temp in Michigan. Used to be, we could get a week or two of this in August only, but have quite nice temperatures and even rainfall throughout the summer. I think that pattern has been changed--seems that way, anyway.
28 years in Michigan.....

sammyd 06/08/11 12:39 PM

pretty hot here too. Set a new record in Wausau.
I love stacking hay on the wagon but yesterday it was no fun at all.
Iced tea so cold it gave me brain freeze helped though...

We could really use the rain they keep saying we have a chance of.

Weather is relative. Yes, we have fewer 100 degree days in Michigan than in Texas, but you have considerably fewer below 0 days on the opposite side of the calendar, too. The regional and seasonal abnormality is what's notable. These 100 degree days have the potential to put a pretty good wrench in our growing season, just as the hard freezes you got this winter put a wrench in yours.

Of course, at least when we have abnormal weather it doesn't shut the whole state down. We can cope and adapt. So there's that.

fellini123 06/08/11 12:56 PM

We are in Central Virginia and they expect recordn highs today. The dogs are already inside and they say they arent coming out until fall!! The kennel dogs are all sleeping on the cool tile inside in the AC. Nobody is barking!!!

Itis 1PM and only 90 degrees, so I dont know if it will make it to 100. Have a ball game tonight so I hope not!!

Isn't that true! Just reading these forums have been an eye-opener for me. Seems like the southern states have a whole lot more winter "snow days" than the northern states and a whole lot more problems with frozen pipes and such.

Callieslamb 06/08/11 01:16 PM

I have to admit to a few good things about the heat - just to be fair- :icecream: My first picking for 2011. They are much sweeter than last year.

Those strawberries look good!

Danaus29 06/08/11 03:56 PM

Pack the bags baby, I'm heading north. Can't garden anyway, might as well find some place where I can watch the snow fall.

Callieslamb 06/08/11 04:28 PM

You'll have to go north of me.

Come on up for a visit. We'll go fishing. The temp right now is 57ºF Bring a jacket.

Danaus29 06/08/11 04:43 PM

At 57* I won't need a jacket, just a heavy shirt. Fishing is the one thing I can do with my broken foot.

kirkmcquest 06/08/11 04:50 PM

It's about 86 here now and humid. Next week it's going down into the 70's again so I'm OK with it. I'm just getting up real early to do my chores before the heat kicks in tomorrow.

You'll need a jacket, the low tomorrow morning is forecast at 41ºF.

I am so seriously tempted to check the airlines for prices. LOL

GoldenCityMuse 06/08/11 06:39 PM

And TX is DRY too. Though not as bad as around Springerville, AZ, where the Wallow fire is fixing to hit. 9% RH there.

Callieslamb 06/08/11 09:57 PM

100 today - but 28% humidity - the heat wasn't so bad that it was uncomfy to work, but I felt like I my skin was drying up and winkling by the minute. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 72. I can almost get whiplash from that difference.

Cabin Fever - I think I'll stay here and just whine. 41 is just downright unnatural for June...at least, all the places I have come from.
