Howdy! The extended family still lives up there, but my hubby was transfered to OR-E-GONE in the mid 80's. We farm on the wet side now, but are really thinking of heading back now that we are nearly retired. Lots of advantages to making your money in oregon, sticking it in a retirement fund, and then moving to Washington to spend it when income tax comes due - oh yeah, NO INCOME TAX.

For Northwest property try: http://www.johnlscott.com/ They have an "advanced search" to look for property with acreage. Also try: http://rmls.com/RC2/UI/Home.asp Good Luck!

I lived in eastern Wa for 14 years and the summers are HOT and DRY. Wildfires are a Big problem. The winters get a lot of snow some years and are very cold. We had acreage and because it was so dry in the summer ( almost 4 months of no rain) it was hard to get veggies to grow without a lot of water. I used to live in Fl too, the summers in Eastern Wa are very similar temp wise just not humid. The winters can be a bit rough when you have any sort of farm animals. We were breaking ice up in the water buckets several times a day, and hauling hot water from the house to the goats and horses all day long is not my idea of fun.
We now live in western Wa and Love it. Mild winters so we can grow food all year long and mild summers with rain so we water very infrequently and boy do things grow here!

If you are interested in Western WA at all look at Concrete or anywhere in Skagit county. The land is cheaper then where I live in Bellingham. Anything West of the cascades is going to have rain and little snow and mild summers.
