Important! Find out from your accountant what software they have in the office.

I make a copy of the year's Quickbooks file and take it to him on a disk. He opens it there, and he can find exactly what he needs to do the taxes. Low stress!

Same here, I use Quickbooks Pro 2010 for 2 business plus our farm and personal. My accountant also uses it, so I just make back up copies for him. It's much easier for everyone.

Quickbooks has monthly fees if you sign up for the payroll feature. I don't subscribe to that. It allows me to manually figure and enter the payroll amounts. We only have 4 employees, so it's not a big deal for me to do it that way. I've used Quickbooks for over 10 years and I love it.

I like how versatile it is. For personal, I have it set up so it's basically just tracking bank accounts and basic income and expenses. For our businesses I have extensive inventory, payroll, sales tax, and so on.
