I have used pvc pipe for years in my garden....push it into the ground next to the plant...fill it up at night.....works great!

Off topic, but we water larger plants/small trees from 5 gallon buckets with a 3/16 hole drilled near the bottom. It just sits there and trickles out the water gently for deep watering. We also bought some plastic hollow spikes from Harbor Freight that have holes in the tips and are designed to stand a 2 liter bottle in the top. Fill the bottle and stand it up on top of the spike and let er rip - (drip)

Flatten the end of a piece of aluminum conduit tubing (electrical), attach a tin can to flattened end, bend if you need to- VOILA !!!!!!! Or, as mentioned, plant dipper gourds for next years project- mght as well add in some bird house gourds too !!!

Find a stick, put a cup on the end of it.

For a fancy model, you could use tape to hold it in place.
