One of my favorite urban homesteaders just put a pay pal donation button on her blog due to help her pay for a CUP (conditional use permit) from the city of Oakland. Cost was $2858.13.
She was unaware until teh code man came a knocking. He may have been tiped off by a group who shares PETA's feelings toward raising meat rabbits.
In anycase the need for a permit came as a surprise so she put a donate button on her
blog.
Her blog has no methods to generate money unlike mine which has google adsense. In this case I sympathized so I donated $3.
Most blogs I try and click on an add to help them generate income. Unless they engage in foolish practices like inserting adds in the middle of a post.
I don't blog for money though I wish I could. I blog as a way to keep track of our lifestyle, methods that work for us in regards to urban homesteading and living @ the line poverty line. Blogging also keeps me honest. I try to have posts that are benefitual but I do occassionaly just have one that is pure bragging.
An added benefit is the friends & community I have made because of blogging. That's a biggy for me since I have very few friends. Aquaintances by the bus full but friends who "get me" are very rare even if it's only an online friendship.
I suppose that in the case of the musican who was asking for donations to fund the purchase of an RV is simular to when the wealthy suport an artist.
