I use mine daily for bread, chess bars, pie crust and what not. It has never failed - and I won't buy anything else! I am a commercial baker.

We bought the pro model about 8 years ago. It died within a year. DW always follows directions, she even reads the manuals on new things. They said she mixed bread too fast, she argued. They sent a refurb and we sent back the broken one. The refurb lasted a few years and started slinging black grease into the food. We bought a Bosch and have been amazed how much better, quieter, and more powerful it is. The refurb KA gets sold at the yard sale this summer.

If I saw an old KA at least 20 years old, or older, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. BUt I wouldn't get a new one. And their blender is junk, too.

It may also matter WHERE you buy the Kitchenaid from. They've been sold by some big box stores lately and frequently the equipment sold at a big box store has been specially made for that sales venue. They are not as good a quality as the ones sold at the top end retail stores even though they look the same and even have the same model numbers.

We have several old Kitchenaid mixers and one "new" one, all of which we found at various yard sales. The "new" one was sent off to the auction house since it's not as good as the old ones. The difference between the old and the new are just little stuff like stamped parts instead of machined parts, but all these little things eventually add up to a superior product.

Both my KA's were bought right from the company. I have on order a Bosch. Has anyone seen the video of making 9 loaves of whole wheat bread with the Bosch. KA couldn't come near that!!

Buck, with all the negative remarks about the KA Pro on this thread, I think you would be better off putting it for sale on the Barter Board.

Whenever DW turned on the KA downstairs, I knew it. I have never heard the Bosch running, no matter what kind of load she put on it. It's an amazing machine.

Yea, it seems the KA does not have a big following here LOL. I knew this was not the place for it, but I thought I'd throw it out there and see what happened. I'm going to have an everything I own is for sale yard sale today and see what comes of it.

Worst case I might give it to my Mom. She is not a heavy duty kind of cook, so it might last her a while.

Again, sorry for the thread drift.

Weird! I have an Artisan model and I make 10-12 pounds of bread dough in it at a shot and have never had a problem. And I bake professionally so I put out 30-40 loaves of bread a week plus a ton of other baked goods.

Patt, I'm not familiar with the Artisan model and bought the biggest they had, thinking since I would be using it mostly for bread, so got the Pro 600 . I'm sure if I only used it for cake mixes, whipping egg whites etc. it would last forever!! One failure I could forgive and forget, but two is one too many. Can't wait to get my Bosch!!!!

I think it is one step down from the Pro 600. I have had one for 8 years now baking full time for Farmer markets. Never had a problem with it and it gets super heavy duty use. I wonder if there is a problem with the 600 model?

I had an Artisian and it died after 1 year, but I have my husbands 25 year old 325 and it is still doing very well.
We just bought a KA at the thrift store for $40 and it looks like it will do OK. But we plan to baby it.

If anyone needs used parts let me know, I have part of one I will be tearing down for scrap. It was a discarded item I picked up... It may be a couple of weeks till I get to it and I don't know what is broken in it. I also don't know what model it is either at this time..

Let me know and I will save the parts you are looking for if they are good..

Perhaps you have some kind of problem with the electric current?
Just a guess here but I bet hers was Made in America and the ones made in the last few years are more likely imported and made with cheaper parts. Seems to be the way of things sadly.

I have a Pro that's about 6 years old, and had the same noise problem while using the meat grinder. After it cooled down, I was able to use it for cakes and such, but am afraid to try bread or meat grinding again. Junk.
