Did you get an autopsy to find out what happened? I would do that if I were you and able to afford it.

I'm so sorry you lost your Otis. Dogs are such a wonderful companion, friend, family. Unconditional love. May your memories of Otis always be sweet.

Its too quiet without my Odie boy, my kids are not handling it too well. He was their fierce protector... never let anything near them.... He's the one I posted about before that we nicknamed "the tank", because we had a picket fence before and if he wanted out he would lower his head and run straight thru it knocking the pickets off the fence! He was something else...

This brings up my sad memories of losing our little girl late last year. She was Seven months and five days old. The vet did a necropsy and said that it appeared she had a heart attack and that it was sudden to they felt she would not have suffered. Unfortunately for us, we were not with her when she passed. My son had taken her for a walk, and she laid down on her pillow. He came upstairs to talk to us and 20 minutes later when we went down stairs she was gone. I tried to do CPR, check compressions, even prayed a little and she still left us.

Oh, I am so sorry about Otis. It feels like one of the family passed...and they DID! It hurts so much to lose a beloved pet. And Otis was still a young boy at 5! I think we are reunited with our beloved pets when WE go on, too. That's one thing that makes it Heaven. My condolences.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
I love this poem.
I am so sorry for the sudden loss of your buddy ((hugs))

Still no autopsy? Any chance of that being done or you just decided it would be better off not knowing? Sorry it happened to you.

Sorry to hear it. I remember having to put my last dog down after a stroke---cried like a baby!

Sorry about your loss. Not to add to your grief but what you describe sounds like a possible case of strychnine poisoning. Anyone else in your area losing pets?
