I have a cellar and a springhouse at the cabin. Didn't have a refer until I got the hydro.
I have one of these. I got it at a sale here, no one knew what it was. For $80.00 I couldn't pass it up....James

Holy poop! james you found that fridge for $80? That was a great find....it goes for a thousand new.

How does the springhouse work for you? I saw a springhouse at an amish farm and I would consider making one if I had a stream. You have a cellar for junk, or a root cellar?

I am thinking of getting the La Natural. it is expensive, but if it works I could filter my water and have an electric free cooler. I have a friend who comes from Guatamala and he said the Indians down there use large terracotta pots to chill the water the same way as this La Natural.
Ever experiment with these things?

I run the water from the microhydro through the springhouse, I have 2 "vats" with wire racks to store produce, milk products and meat in seperately. It does very well, with 8" walls and full insulation. The water is about 42 degrees and the springhouse stays below 46 all summer. The springbox is up the hill with gravity feed to the unit with a 2" pvc pipe, it is the drinking water source also. The root cellar, 6'x8', faces north and is banked on 3 sides and the front door is 3' below grade, concrete walls....James

James, how does your produce and meat hold up in the spring house? Does it keep a long time? How about your root cellar, how long can you keep things in it? What is the average year round temp for the root cellar?
I would love to see some pics if you can. And some pics of how you have the cabin set up?
And this how you live year round, right?
I am headed in the same direction.

Thanks.
