I dont see anyone trying to force their way of living on you. The point is that some people are happy with what they have and the way things are for them.
You would be happy with the way you want things. But how are you going to find a place to live without paying someone for something?

Producing my own clothing and shoes would be very difficult - in the climate I live in, both are NEEDS. Can man survive without - in books, on paper - yes....but not this wo--man. Yes, I am speaking from my perspective. I believe that is what discussion is - I say from my point of view, you from yours. We discover where we agree and disagree. I have not said that anyone has to live the way I do or have my goals. But I think it's a misnomer to say that we have poor lives today. We live like KINGS compared to almost any other people in any other time on earth. If YOUR deepest desire is to live as a caveman - go for it. I won't stop you. I do not see how we can live today without being a part at least in a minor way - of the great economic slavery that we find ourselves in today. We can greatly minimize it, but unless you find said cave - you are caught up in it in some way - like having a computer, for example.

I started this thread for a discussion about growing all that we need (or want, if you like). For each that dividing line is quite different. For me, it isn't a realistic way of life right now. For others, it might be. I'd like to hear from them about how it is going for them and in what areas it is the most difficult. Where they have been the most successful. The limitations they have found and the freedoms. It isn't about anyone telling anyone else what they can and can't do. It was not intended be a political discussion so I'd appreciate it if we could keep it off that topic. There's another board on this site for that.

This is about growing what you need/want. Maybe a list of what others find as NEEDs/WANTS would be interesting. I think too many buy into the idea that we only need water, food and shelter to live. That's not what I call living - I call that surviving only. I have no intention of living with only water, wheat and a tarp over my head.

Emergency only for this girl. Not sure there are enough. Deer out there to clothe everyone. How many would it take to cover you? Judging by the omens I see here- I think I need 2-3. Lol

You're right - better than starving. Store lots of very large needles.

Man never produced all his "own" food. The only ones that were truly self-sufficient were the indians, living in harmony with nature. Yet even they were not actually "self" sufficient, since they were living off mother nature's goodwill.
