Are you willing to let the HOA tell you your front door MUST be painted white and you must have a black roof? Some will.

I think some people who live in areas that are being gobbled up by development but are fighting it are missing the opportunity to buy a conservation easement on the remaining land from the owner or buying it outright. Studies have shown that property values increase when there is undeveloped land nearby. By buy the easement they prevent it from being turned into more houses and increase their property value in the process.

Sometimes clutter just sort of happens.

For years I kept my property pretty clean but then I started the fish farm. I stopped there before work, went to work, and then worked the farm until dark or later. Weekends were mostly 12-16 hours days. I did that from April to mid-November for about 10 years. All summer I let things lie where I dropped them and each fall I would be exhausted. Then winter would come. As soon as the snow was gone in the spring I was back working at the farm.

Over time I just got used to stepping over things and having the house dirty. Now I'm gradually getting the place back in shape.

I can't imagine the neighbors with the spotless properties were too happy with the looks of my place.

It's beyond me. Throwing garbage around your yard is the same as pooping in the bed you sleep in, as far as I am concerned. I don't understand the attitude of people like that.

I'm in the country and people save usable farm-type stuff. I don't have any problem with stacks of usable stuff, but that is not garbage.

I also don't have any problem with livestock. I got my current place for half its value because there was a goat farm next door. I would bet the seller wasn't too happy, though, when he couldn't sell his property because of all the flies and stink.

Unfortunately, the nice neighbors with the goats moved and rented their place and now I have trashy tenants next door who throw garbage around and sneak over and steal. I've had to turn off all the circuit breakers for outside electricity so they can't hook up to my power.

While there are some nice people who throw garbage around, I think you are much more likely to have dopers or crooks if the neighbors toss garbage around, breed mice, flies, and vermin, and think that having their children playing in bags of slimy spoiled garbage and rusty razor blades counts as good parenting.

They are relatively good neighbors other than all of the traffic. There is so much growing here that you can't find anywhere that you are away from it. Even in town, you can smell it driving down the streets and see the plants growing over privacy fences. We did have problems with one guy staying there who turned out to be on meth but the owner kicked him out. Many of them are not even smoking their own product, just business men.

If the people are nice, good neighbhors, and dont rob me, or start fist fights, then I am ok with however messy their land would be. I dont mind people being poor and untiddy, but I do mind trouble makers, thieves and thugs.

things like that aren't as bad around here as they once were..also a few years ago there was a really messy place and some people went together and bought it and cleaned it up and sold it in two lots..one now has a fairly nice double wide with a garage on it and no trash, and there is still a elec pole and part of a deck on the second property but it hasn't been sold or built on yet.

I believe that 4 out of the 5 issues you brought up are valid. It's a valid issue when the problem crosses your property line.

I agree with tink, it becomes a problem when it crosses into your land, or into public spaces. barking dogs and loud domestic fighting are an issue also, because the noise travels over your property line.

When my next door neighbhor moved in years ago they were total pests with there motorcycle, boat, and car repairs in the driveway. All day long blasting the radio, reving the engines, toxic smoke coming into my windows and stinking my house out.

it was a problem for other people on the block also, until one day someone went over and told them that all the noise and stink was upsetting the block. The guy was appologetic, he said he was not even aware that that could be a problem, and then he cut way back on the noise. Now, he is a good neighbor and we get along good, we help each other out and talk a lot.

How I wish people were just plain considerate to each other. If someone wants to buy a property with a good view of someone's trashy place, don't buy it and expect to force the resident to change his ways. Likewise, if you tend to trash your place, don't buy property around neighbors who obviously care for the appearances of their own homes, knowing you will likely make them unhappy since they value asthetics. Either put up some kind of proper privacy fence, or purchase property among neighbors with a similar mindset. The newcomer should always consider the neighbors IMO.

Oh, my neighbors hate us. They've been over twice to complain about dogs barking. I would feel bad if it was at night and they couldnt' sleep but it's during the day they hear them. When they are outside.

We also have a single wide trailer, 2 goats, a bottle calf, 50 chickens, 3 cats, and 8 dogs. We keep the place looking nice and our kids have lots of room to run. The 2nd time the neighbor lady came over to complain he told her maybe she was more suited to town life. They have a perfecly manicured lawn and a brick house. They also shot a dog(that another neighbor owns) with a 12 guage because it was on their place and later tried to say it was bothering their chickens.

I don't care what they do over there, and I really don't think it's their business what I do here. Personally if I was them I'd be more upset by the 5 kids yelling and screaming outside than the dogs that bark for a total of 20 minutes during the day.

I really get steamed when people choices on land use that they own raises my land value and cause me to have to pay more for the pleasure of living near them.

My land is my land I do the best that I can. I paid for the land and I pay the taxes deal with your own land.

We've had some trash down the road. Trailers falling apart, garbage laying everywhere, ugh. Also with Dish Network. Easy to see where the priorities.
But they've cleaned up quite a bit, and now there's only one or two. Quite fortunately. I'd have to say ours is the junkiest for a ways, but at least it doesn't have actual garbage laying all over.

Gee My neighbors tell me I have done the most good for this place. . LOL Seriously if your going to worry over everything your neighbor is doing then you are only stressing yourself. My feelings are if their not drug dealers, moonshiners, or child or animal abusers then I am pretty happy. I have a neighbor that didn't live here for over a year and a 1/2. His property grew up in weeds, did it bother me> NOPE it sure was quiet.

Freedom to live your life the way you want. There isn't much freedom left in America.

If your neighbors freedom is restricted then yours can be, and will be someday.

When one hoarder marries another hoarder it is not 1 plus 1 equals 2. More like 4, perhaps 8.

One I know came back to take care of her aging parents. Before moving he called all of her friends and told them to come by and they could probably take anything they wanted free. Apparently no one took anything, which should have been an indication of value. Since she now has a permanant location she is now collecting animals.

Other friends moved down from Long Island. They had a neat plan. They bought old school busses, filled one to be driven down, followed by wife in a car, also packed. Idea was to sell the busses locally. Maybe 25 years ago now. Those school busses are still parked there, still full of what they brought down.

We live on a dead end road with 4 families living on it. The first property on our road is like that. I could care less. Is it ugly? Sure, to me it is, but he obviously doesn't care so why should I? The only reason I have for gawking at his property is to watch his chickens, roosters, and his turkey named Pearl simply b/c I think they are neat and I can't wait to get my own.

We live and let live here for the most part.

Only real neibor problem is with dogs. One neibor has a pack that runs loose. Myself and other neibors bury/haul off many dead neibor dogs from our properties. About 20 a year go to dog heaven. We kill em, neibor get's more to kill.
