One of the scammer's email mails reads something like : I've got an extra one. I had one given to me as a gift, so now I can give you the extra. Since the name of the item is usually in the title, the email actually makes a bit of sense. But I've received identical emails for several different ads.

I put in my ads that I will answer emails, but they must say something specific about my ad, in order to discourage spammers. That has worked for me. People responding know to make a reference to my ad or to the item, and if they don't, I do not respond to the email.

I'm selling some horseradish roots on CL right now.

So far most have been spam. One asked if we could trade and then gave a misspelled CL listing + money.

Another was a short "still got it".

From no on I'll include a requirement to say more than just a couple of words if they want a reply.

I see a number of ads people place for friends who don't have internet.

I have 2 emails. One is for kohls and tsc and craigslist. Anything that requires an email address that isn't a real person or a person who isn't a friend gets the junk email. Friends and loved ones get the good email. I have 5351 unread emails in my junk email and only one unread message in my good email. It is useful. Sometimes I'm not on the internet for a while and I don't have to clean out lots of junk this way.

Ohh and no one gets our address until they are in transit. "Ok we will meet on saturday afternoon, call when your on your way and I'll give you directions then". Helps me feel protected anyway. If the person gives me bad vibes then I meet them at a public place.

I have sold alot on craigslist and I like it but there are a lot of wierdos out there.
