I guess all of this is a good argument for a small, limited government. Limited government, limited impact on the people when they mess up.

Alot of people think its just the military that won't get paid. No sir, its also people who work in Veterans hospitals, army or navy hospitals, fed prisons etc. Unfortunately my sis is a psychologist at the Navy Med Center. You still have to go to work, even if it costs you money to go. She can't afford to have a missed check right now : (

Yep, DH said they are telling the civilians that they will have to come in Monday, even if they govt shuts down, to get their pink slips. Why make them waste the gas if they won't get to work? This is just messed up.

Far too many people have car loans, student loans, credit card balances and overextended house payments that are considered normal. They sit there with high speed and cable TV in multiple rooms. Rarely do you hear about the borrowers. They apparently were victims.

Real change in this country can only happen in spite of government, not because of them.

Our family was discussing this at dinner. If this happens will there be a way for others to help military families - with groceries, etc?

This is Baloney. All service personnel will continue to be paid...only military workers pay will be suspended.

Even though the shut down has not happened yet, the military's 15th paycheck will only be half of what they normally get paid. If you live in a military community you could probably contact the military installation and they can connect you to where you could donate food. The main people who are going to need help are the newly enlisted. They are the ones who normally earn so little that they are considered in the poverty level, so missing half a paycheck will have a huge impact on them.

I wish people would put the blame on the party that has caused this to happen.
The Democratic Party and Nobody else can be blamed.
Now before people start hanging up the rope for me. I shall post why I said what I did.
This is Not the 2011 budget, please keep that in mind as that is the whole crutch of my post.
Way Back In October, when the Democratic Party had the majority they COULD have done this and it would not be an issue today.
But they did not, They HAD the World on a string and did not do a thing.
Now many on here want to put the blame on The Tea party movement, when in fact it IS The Tea Party movement that will get things better.
But Please Put the blame on who caused this to happened now.
What they are working on is the 2010 Budget~!!!!!!!! Gee and how many months are we now into 2011????

Well I am just flat out gonna brag about our daughter... She is the wife of a military man. They have a 4 yr old and she is 2 months pregnant. her husband is away right now. I told her a week ago if this were to happen that we would help out with whatever they needed. Talked to her tonight, yes they will get only 1/2 pay. She saw it before the government pulled access to the LES online. She say's don't worry mom, we took out a small loan to make sure we could cover what we needed. Would I like to have seen her more prepared instead of taking out a loan? Well yes, but the bottom line is they are taking care of themselves and not relying on us to back them up. The one comment she made that made me the most proudest was " they need to quit their whining and complaining. They just need to do what they need to do to take care of their families" Meaning other military wives whining. I am proud of my daughter she is a real military wife trooper!

We are looking at a non Perishable food run to Ft Brag where My daughter is in the FRG there. She is getting phone call after phone call of young 10 year old woman with children that just don't know where food for their babies are going to be.

Shutdown averted. Now almost as annoying as the blame game, we can start with who should take credit game.

Our military was going to starve to death and die if they didn't get a paycheck for a week. How hard do you think other countries are laughing at us reading all of this on blogs, facebook and watching mainstream media?

There are a lot of military families that are on food stamp and reduced lunches.
I am not making excuses for bad money managment but here is my deal. You go fight for our country and I will shut my business down and haul gorceries to give away. Economical no but when a young mother away from her family is scared even a stranger can comfort.

The shut down was avoided, but the military's mid month check will still only be half the normal pay. They will reimburse the difference at the end of the month, but for many that live pay check to pay check, that's not a big consolation.

Well said. Most people don't realize that the lower ranking military members are below poverty level, so things like this hits them hard.

We were told that you can't see the LESs on DFAS because they are fixing our midmonth checks... I guess time will tell. But, we're hopeful that pay will be for the right amount.
