I'm from Milwaukee Wisconsin. I now live in South Dakota. I also look right away to see where the poster is from and it is a little irritating when it's not listed. Not because I need to know because I'm curious...but in order to help or share experience it is very helpful to know where the person is from.

When I was a lurker on this site, I realized that it is very definitely a good thing to list location if you want valid answers or people to understand where your advice is coming from. I also look to see where people are from, partly because I'm curious and partly because I'm a bit of a word wonk and I like to see if the regional dialects come through when it is all in print. Knowing that I'm talking to people all over the continent and world is part of what makes this type of communication so much fun.

I'm currently living in Italy, but am from eastern NC (Fayetteville, to be exact). The two climates are nearly identical.

Born in western NY state. Lived a number of years in Stevens, PA, now back in NY's Southern Tier...just a few miles north of Genesee, PA.

I often wonder the same. It's not like you can't be a bit descriptive. There is room.

Zones have absolutely nothing to do with growing lettuce in April. Location might not be helpful either. I can tell you that I'm in Maine but that's meaningless. Part of Maine is snow free and the ground is thawed. I still have snow. If you want useful information ask for the current growing conditions.

I'm also ah Mainah, and at first I didn't post my location 'cause I'm a private person. When I want someone to know where I'm hiden, I figure on lettin' 'em know when it suits me. Some do it intentionally, like me; and some do it not realizing how, as in maybe not knowing their way around to do things.

I was born and have lived in Indiana, at various locations, all my life, except for a few short visits elsewhere, when in the USAF, many years ago.
I think it's pretty much all Zone 5 for planting except the Northern & Southern edges.

Yup it is a bit flustering when a poster says "I am going to plant (outside) my tomato plants today. . .. etc. etc."
Then I look outside here (northern Mich) and there is many inches of snow in the garden area............Bahhhumbug..........

Many many folks just do not stop to think about the north\south weather differences..............

I don't want folk knowing where i am located. Simple as that.

I respect your right to post whatever you want, please respect my right to privacy.

I am in zone 5/6. That is enough.
