100F here already. Pits.

The thermometer topped 100 F today. Even for us this is too early. The "cool weather" crops are just about prostrate from the heat. Haven't even harvested any broccoli or peas yet. I hate to think what this summer is going to be like. Last summer was brutal, especially August. I know -- this isn't a homesteading question -- just wanted to b*tch a bit.

MO_cows 04/03/11 07:56 PM

I feel your pain. We got into the upper 80's here today with a south wind that hasn't been less than 25 mph all day. Drying everything out and blowing the blossoms off of the redbuds and dogwoods which are just now blooming. Too much, too soon.

rickfrosty 04/03/11 08:00 PM

Wow ! We still have as much as 20 in. of snow ! 100 deg. is too hot ever, say nothing of 1st of April !!

barnyardgal 04/03/11 08:06 PM

It was 90 here at 4 p.m. and weather guy said we broke a record for today...

sure is windy to go along with it..lots of fires around to...

Carol K 04/03/11 08:08 PM

I've done nothing but complain about the weather all year, I'm sick of listening to myself!
It's still cold here, snow and rain, and no leaves on the trees, one day Spring will come.
I am sorry you are getting the heat so early,

Carol K

where I want to 04/03/11 08:09 PM

Wow- isn't that a bit much even for Texas? It sounds very hard on people.

bluemoonluck 04/03/11 08:29 PM

Feel free to send about 20 of those degrees to us here in Utah..... I'm ready for spring!!

thaiblue12 04/03/11 08:33 PM

You can send me 20 degrees too, it snowed here today, windy as heck and just plain icky. Yesterday it was in the 80's short sleeves and today :yuck: heavy coat and frozen water.

Alice In TX/MO 04/03/11 08:39 PM

Yes, it is ridiculously hot in Texas, and ridiculously early in the spring for this. Also, here on the Gulf Coast, we haven't had appreciable rain for over a month. It's ridiculous. Did I say ridiculous. Yup. Totally.

Serena 04/03/11 08:42 PM

Belfrybat...

Same here in west texas.... It was 94 when I stopped listening to the weather today.... and 50 mile an hour winds... oh and the high tommorow??? 61 I think they said last... cant make up its freaking mind.. we need rain BAD thats for sure...

seedspreader 04/03/11 08:43 PM

Had a little bit of snow today, but it was mixed with rain. That means it's spring in NW PA.

You can keep 100°F.

blufford 04/03/11 08:43 PM

Its suppose to hit 70 degrees tomorrow with 50 MPH winds. Can you say achoo!

TooManyHobbies! 04/03/11 08:52 PM

It was very warm here, too. North of us they are getting some pretty bad storms, too...

Minelson 04/03/11 10:07 PM

Wow...That sounds too hot for me. We still have snow in some spots. No real new growth yet at all. Still in the lower 30's at night. High wind warnings make it a bit uncomfortable when out in the open. But we got a lot done today, no bugs...nice and cool :)

texican 04/03/11 10:29 PM

We had 80s last month, and a 'cool' spell in the sixties for a week, and now it's kissing 90 again. Lucked out and got 2/10th inch last week... first rain since January. Resigned to watering the garden soon... will have to buy a gas powered pump, if I want any kind of production at all. Have seeds been sitting in dirt for ten days and haven't 'swollen' up yet and sprouted.

My lake is 3' low. Thought that was bad. Cousin came over today to fish and said there ponds were 7' low. Normally, all the lakes and ponds would be full this time of year.

Have added lots of goat dung/straw and mulch around all the fruit trees to try and keep whatever moisture is available there, instead of it just evaporating.

secretcreek 04/03/11 10:33 PM

Sleeted yesterday. Was 28f and a heavy frost this morning, then topped out a sunny 70 degrees here in SE Ohio.

scrt crk

Oldcountryboy 04/03/11 10:38 PM

Both Texas and Oklahoma is experiencing severe drought conditions. If we don't get some rain soon we might be entering another dirty 30's with dust storms and the whole works.

Here too, yesterday Daffodils finally bloomed 75 degrees, today 30 and 4 inches of snow!

fordy 04/03/11 11:47 PM

......................Was up too 86f here in northcentral tx this Pm ! Winds were blowing the dust off these oilfield roads due north for the most part , fortunately my guard shack is facing north so all the dirt went around me . The heat doesn't really settle in here in tx until after may 15th. , usually . Then , we start getting those 95f to 98f days like clockwork until the middle of Sept . I'll be ready for fall by then ! , fordy

Driest March on record here, not ready to concede another dust bowl, tho.

Tricky Grama 04/04/11 07:16 AM

Woke up to thunderstorms about 5:00! Whoohoo! Need rain badly.

Whisperwindkat 04/04/11 08:10 AM

Wow, Texas please keep that heat to yourselves. We are having a pretty decent spring, but I know the heat and humidity are just around the corner. Just want to keep it away for a little longer. Blessings, Kat

Cabin Fever 04/04/11 08:35 AM

Snowing very lightly on the drive into work this morning.

insocal 04/04/11 11:44 AM

We had a couple days last week of upper 90's. And that was THREE DAYS after I was finally able to turn the dadblamed heat off!

Of course now it's cool enough to wish for heat again. Sigh. Glad I'm not tryiing to grow anything. It would be an exercise in futility.

Sanza 04/04/11 12:23 PM

It's finally getting above freezing during the day here, spring is a little later then we're used to, but we're just coming out of a drought cycle of 20 years or so and we needed this snow and the slow melting this spring.
I feel sorry for you all with the high temps already ~ we rarely go above 85 here.

Belfrybat 04/04/11 12:58 PM

Well, after the 100 F yesterday, today we are in the high 50's but with 35-50 mph. winds. The garden plants are all prostrate and wind burned. In Texas, if it ain't one thing it's anodder.

Jade1096 04/04/11 01:07 PM

It was 96 here yesterday. For about 5 minutes last night, it decided to rain and hail. Then cleared off.

Today it is about 52 right now, and only supposed to get up to about 64.
My poor herbs are not liking this very much.

ladycat 04/04/11 01:37 PM

Yesterday's high in my area was 102° (!!!)

We seldom hit 3 digits before July. That makes me worried about what to expect this summer.

PyroDon 04/04/11 01:44 PM

They had predicted the mid-90's. As it turned out, we were the hottest spot in the entire country yesterday.

kabri 04/04/11 02:29 PM

That actually sounds good, compared to our month of solid, record setting rain here, the mud is terrible and it's only low 40's. We need a dry spell real bad, warm would be nice too!

anette 04/04/11 03:40 PM

Just "across the street" from NE Texas here... Highs this weekend of 80+ and gusty winds from 20-30mph. Not much in the way of rain since January, our pond is looking bad. Thunderstorms this am, but not enough rain... Now it's 55 degrees-2:30 pm Monday.

The same rain came through here a while ago too! Yea!!.. I planted the rest of my garden all weekend and prayed for rain. The wind was so bad yesterday and with the ground so dry it felt like a mini dust bowl...We desperately needed the rain..

olivehill 04/04/11 04:06 PM

We'll take 20 of those degrees up here in MI, too! It's chilly and blustery out there and I want spring!

praieri winds 04/04/11 04:16 PM

just a smidgen of rain this morning before dawn now windy as can be and supposed to get down to 35F tonight hope it dosen't frost might kill our potatoes and carrots cucks haven't come up yet so no danger there yes we do need some good rains sorry for it getting so hot over there so early hope it dosen't turn out to be another 1980 here when the high got to a 113F and not under 100F at night

arcticow 04/04/11 06:50 PM

So would somebody tell me why Dallas gets 1.5" of rain, but the places north and south w/o concrete get .10 or less...

PrettyPaisley 04/04/11 08:59 PM

I'm not looking forward to the heat but today's temp of 81 was wonderful!

jassytoo 04/04/11 09:14 PM

Temps here aren't bad but we're floating away here. I'd be glad to share our rain!:grump:

Belfrybat 04/04/11 09:31 PM

Well, I just got back in the house from covering all the plants since we are supposed to have a freeze tonight! And yes, I am the OP who complained yesterday about 100 f temps and today 35-50 mph winds. Most of the plants are wind burned after being fried yesterday and now they face getting frozen tonight. I wonder why I even try to have a garden! Pits, and more pits.
