Yes Volleypc, I keep sorting, getting rid of, sort some more, get rid of more. I just don,t want to get rid of items for a dime, and find out it will cost me a dollar when I find out I need it.

We moved from Alaska to Missouri and though the military moved us, we got rid of virtually all of our furniture (gave it to some of our kids), dishes, etc. and we dont regret it at all. Its been fun furnishing our old farm house with antiques (not valuable...just old and comfortable!) and starting over like that. We kept all our tools and shipped even the various buckets of screws and bolts, spare parts etc. you tend to accumulate and I am glad we did. The only thing we couldnt ship (but could have loaded in the back of our pickup) was various household cleaners, old paint, oil, solvents etc. from our old shop. I really regret not packing that up and loading it into the truck because we sure needed it as soon as we got here and as you already know that stuff is expensive.

There is something cathartic about selling the trappings of your old life and starting over. We had a happy, successful and enjoyable life in Alaska that stretched 17 years and we still have a lot of the art we accumulated but it was a big adventure to start over and we have really enjoyed the process of furnishing our old farmhouse.

Never underestimate the Hoosier state for land deals. Not a lot of big sections left, but 40 acres can still be had reasonable here in Southern Indiana.

Good luck in your move and keep us posted!

startup, I wish you the best of luck! We tried for a couple of years to get to the MO Ozarks, but being self employed in Kansas we just couldn't swing it. So, last fall we bought a farm in southern Kansas.

MO has very low property tax rates, and they only tax food at 1.2%. TN (when I lived there fifteen years ago), had zero state income tax and pretty low personal property tax rates as well.

If I had to choose between those two states, I think I would choose Ozarks. SO MO is chock full of homesteaders and do it yourselfers, as well as regular farmers and church going folks. Also has big Amish/Mennonite communities which can be VERY helpful.

Good luck, God Bless, and have the time of your life!

thestartupman, We, too, are born-again Christians...actually are "spiritual israelite" grafted.

I am where I am because I felt drawn to be here. I had known for many years I would wind up where I am; and as soon as I arrived, everything fell into place here for my family. This (and other "strange" situations that have occurred since) has let me know following one's heart-felt inner voice was a wise move for me.

I still don't know "why" I'm here; just that David and I are suppose to be.
