600 gallons propane, cord and a half of wood for a two story 3000+ sq. ft. house. Colder than normal this winter here in NW MS. We kept the thermostat set on 66 (lower at night).

We're still burning wood and we will into May but then it's usually only in the morning. So far, we've burned 5 full cords of mixed locust, oak, maple, and some ash. It was a horrible winter in NY both in amount of snow and long stretches of cold this year. I imagine we'll burn at least another face cord before it's warm enough to quit completely. We turned the furnace on while we went away for the weekend a couple of times but I have no idea how much fuel oil it used.

We have a 1200 square foot log cabin to heat. Added: I like it toasty warm in the house.

Im not sure about just the winter. I use about 40 face cord per year to heat the house, and our domestic water during the summer

Wow that's a lot of wood to heat houses in the last couple of replies. What sort of furnace or stove are you using (sorry for the thread drift!)

6 cord seasoned oak in an outdoor wood boiler....heats our domestic hot water, too so save $30 worth monthly on our electric bill, too. That is full cords...not ricks, ranks, or whatever they call it where you live. Since we have 80 acres woods and cut our own we feel free to be nice and warm! DEE who plants way more trees every year than she burns......

OK this one is not me but of my Grandmother for which I cut wood. My Pap liked a hot house. You could melt the cheese on a sandwich on his coffee table in just a couple of minutes. He brunt around 12-15 truck loads of wood a year. This year my Nanny has brunt over 22 and is not done yet. Never seems to have enough wood. This is not junk wood either it is a good soild oak and some of it green even. But I love her and will keep cutting as long as I need to and as much as I need to to ensure that she stays as warm as she wants to be.
