I got into a similar situation a few months ago. I saw an add in the paper fpr a Loader off a Ford 4000. I got pictures of it and agreed on a price. I asked several times it it had an after market welds or breaks on it. I got down there and the old man had a Ford loaer attachment that had scabs welded all over it and about 5 gallons of paint on it. I drove 150 miles to see this. Lots of sellers think if you drive that far youll take it.

I went yesterday to buy a hay mower a couple had. I called and told them I had to come after work and they agreed. I called and told them I was on my way and called to get directions when I got closer. When I got there I met a pickup pulling the mower out of the drive way. THey sold it while I was on my way I was actually 45 minutes early.

I met a farmer in Northern Kentucky who raises just goats. I don't remember his name or what kind of goats he has but I do know right where he lives. I have bought stuff from him. He can ask a lot for his stuff and drive a hard bargain but I didn't get the impression he is dishonest or irresponsible. The local extension office would probably know him.

If I tell someone I'll hold an item until they get there, I will hold it, but only until the agreed upon time.

However, my experience is that about 90% of people who say they are coming and want something held for them never actually show up. So I can't quarrel too much with the folks that say first come first served. They don't want to turn down a buyer with cash in hand, standing in their driveway, because someone else who might show up and might not has said they will be by to look at the item later.

Actually the goat the other man bought was a different doe. I would have liked her, yes, but I went to see her sister. The sister doe was still there, the lady just no longer wanted to sell her.
I've gotten over the diappointment though, and will still keep in touch with this lady. She's very knowledgable and had very nice animals. That's why I was putting up with her flakiness. And who knows, one day I may call her and she may say come get this doe or that one? I may need some advice?

Not all are bad. I've been buying and found many good deals on CL and the people say what they mean and mean what they say.

One deal was gone before I got there but the guy had called my cell but it went to vice mail.

9/1 on the good side so far. When I call I always give them my name up front and this seems to start things off better. I guess there are so many ripsters that the sellers are not sure if anyone's legit anymore.

Never give up on people. Just thank them if something's gone when you get there. Good things happen to good people...

I can't give up on CL because of one of my first experiences. Someone listed 4 chain link dog pens for an absolutely unreal price ($25 per pen! Yes, 3 solid and a gate!) I called, said I wanted them all but had to find a trailer. I managed one pen then it rained, then they had problems and it wound up being 3 weeks before I got all 4 home, but those wonderful people turned down higher offers and held onto them because they'd given me their word. There are honest people left! and I met 2 of them :-) All thanks to CL

Back to the OP, though, have you checked PetFinder? I've seen goats on there...

yes, there are people like you out there, just have to look hard for them.

For the others, I know for sure that what goes around, comes around, and usually ten times worse than they treated you.

just sayin

how close are you to ohio?

I've dealt with NKyWindyAcres - she's great if you're looking for registered show stock.

I'm just past Cincinnati and I've got two nubian bucklings in my barn that could be wethers or unregistered breeders if you're just looking for milk and good teats. 75 each, both for 100 - pm me if you want.
