I am pretty close (NW AR). I am a fan of the heirloom's - I love to try new varities but Cherokee Purples and Arkansas Travelers are a fixture here.

Interesting! Traveler was developed specifically for producing well in hot portions of the South. Obviously must have been some other factor than where it was grown.

I personally liked little marble size yellowish white tomato I got from some lady in Pennsylvania few years back. Lost seed I saved somehow. I thought it was white currant but planted some white current from elsewhere and wasnt the same. She still sells seed but now wants crazy handling charge if you just order packet or two so gave up on it. I like yellow pear tomato, that is one of most reliable here.

For "slicer" probably Stupice is only one I had much luck with since I really dont have much water to work with in summer months. Taste depends on growing conditions that year, some years pretty good, others not so good.

I am in SW ohio so not as hot. I lived in Ny before this and have grown many kinds of tomatos. I like lower acid, non-splitting, indeterminate samich tomatoes. I was really into growing as many varieties as i could find for many years. Having a garden so I could get lots of different stuff. As for tomatos I am cutting back. Rutgers, yellow pear and Delicious. That is it for me this year. Out of the thirty plus i have tried in the last 20 years, when I only wanted I picked Rutgers and Yellow Pear. The delicious were added just so I would have 3 for, you know, variety and easy to find.

Same thing happened to me, only it was the Pinapple Tomato Beautiful plant, all the other tomatoes did great that year, even the brandywines produced a decent amount. But Pinapple tomato, not a single fruit.

I didn't read the other replies & don't know about the best for the heat but my favorites are mortgage lifters , oxhearts & rutgers . Romas are good for sauces & pastes & such .
