We don't have insurance on our place because the trailer is too old to insure but it's our only place to live. I have a fear one day our neighbors will be burning trash and catch the area on fire.
Yup-I hear ya. Cost me $300, nearly, plus the embarassment.
Ya know how stupid city girls can be.
PS-tnx for the vote of confidence, BUffy!! We'll really HAVE to get together!

I wanted to add something here----Our burn ban is from 6 in the morning until 5 at night. That doesn't make any sense to me. Could someone please explain WHY I can go out at 5 in the morning and start a fire but after 6 it is a big no no? Same as at night. I have to wait until 6 PM (dark here by 6) to burn my weekly bag of trash. I really should call someone in the county that knows why but not sure who to call. Fire Department? County offical? That said I always wait until a non windy day to burn.
The reason is the same reason you get dew on the grass at night. You have less chance of a fire getting out of control at night when vegetation is wetter.

It came closest to our neighbors just a quarter of a mile to the NW of us. The fire was burning through waist high dry grass and small cedar trees and as you might imagine it was moving fast. I sure hope the people who started the fire have got good insurance - they are liable for all of the burned fence lines, any structures, and for providing hay for the ranchers who had their fields burned. Many of the pastures will be unusable even if rain comes soon to resprout the grass, until new fence is built.
Fire here today too. Glad y'all were okay. It came to about 1/4 mile of our place. Lost 30 homes in the area here : /
Scary stuff. Be careful!

Must be a small town thing to find the guy with the worst temperament to be fire chief. I do know a few good small town chiefs, but only a few.
