I fill my 500 gallon tank about every 18 months or so. we have a cabin that is propane heat that we rent out to hunters and that uses the most of our propane. our house is propane heat but we use wood stove for heat only let furnace run when it is -10 or colder at night to keep water pipes open as heat lines run with water pipes.

During the cold months, I use 100-135 gals a month on average. Last fill up in march and then they show up again in October. Last load was $377 and change, with fees and other charges. House is about 1500 sq ft, porpane heat, cookstove and water heater.

Wow! For that climate and size of house you use a lot of propane. You need to look for the problem.

Seems like a lot of people could benefit from added insulation! My house is about 1500 sq ft. I use propane for heat, hot water, and cooking. I top off my tank about once a year. 400 gallons, give or take!

About 2,000 square feet here in Southeastern Ohio. We use between 250 and 300 gallons of propane a year. We also burn 3-4 tons of pellets or corn per year.

In the middle of the winter I use about 300 gallons every 5-6 weeks. I'm heating roughly 3000 square feet. Just had another 300 gallons delivered last week for $2.04 a gallon, cash.

How do I heat 3500 sq feet with wood? Well, some of it is done with the propane, but we get the main part of the house pretty warm with the wood burning stove! We also draw the heat upstairs with ducting and a fan. Its not pretty but it was cheap and effective. We live in an Eucalyptus grove and let me tell you, that stuff burns hot! Each year we pretty much just cut up what has fallen during the summer and maybe take down one or two dead tress and that provides plenty of wood.

I keep the thermostat at 67 and keep a few guest rooms closed off except for when they are in use on the weekends. Our bedrooms are slightly colder but then we just get under the covers. The oven/stove and hot water heater are all on the propane and don't use too much.
