I'm a vest guy...with long sleeve woolies as a base layer and a decent long sleeve shirt I do well with a vest to keep my core warm. Of course this is Arkansas I'd like to add a decent work coat to the mix and would probably choose Carhartt.
I picked up a new Carhartt vest back in November from our local Farmers Association store. I shopped it at TSC as well and looked at their store brand (made in China) to save $15, but couldn't bring myself to do it and would rather spend my money at the Farmers Association. I was sad to see, though, that my vest was assembled in Mexico even though it was of U.S. components. That's bad enough, but I really hope that they don't move production to China.

Yeah, but you bought it 33 years ago.
Levis I bought 33 years ago were good for 10-12 years. Levis bought today are good for about 4 months.
So, the question is: will Carharts purchased today last for 33 years?

I got mine used from a friend who had worn it for years, and I've worn it for over ten years. That thing is great!
Side note: I just heard a radio story about this new independent film made in 2010 that is up for some awards called Winter's Bone, about life in the Ozarks. Apparently the producers had ordered a bunch of Carhartts for the actors to wear but they looked too brand new to be authentic. Their solution? Trade coats with all the locals. The locals got brand new coats and the actors used authentic worn Carhartts. I thought that was pretty neat.

I bought a new one three years ago to replace the worn out one (1994 vintage). The new one's still in the closet, just wasn't as comfortable as old ragged one.

DH must be a LOT harder on his coats than you guys are!!
He's gotten 10 years out of his latest bibbies so far, but we're usually pretty happy getting three seasons out of his coats.

I'm on the opposite end. 2 years and its time to get a new one. I guess its like my work boots. 6-9months, and the soles are worn out, or they're cracked.
I have one coat and one pair of boots that I wear. They get replaced when they're worn out, which is often.

Truth be told, since Carhartts only last about 2-3 years, I got him a knock-off this last go-round. So far it's holding together just as well as a coat that's nearly twice as expensive.
ETA: Given the huge disparity between the decades of wear that people are reporting, vs. a couple-three years that most guys I know get, I have to wonder what the deal is...??
Is it a quality change over the last couple decades??
Or is it wear-time each season? That is, DH and pretty much anyone else I know that wears Carhartts, wear their coat all day in winter because that's where their job is...?

I just got my first for me this year. But we have hubby's arctic lined coat and bibs from 25 years ago. Now our son wears them working sheep.
I also have childrens' coveralls in sizes 4, 6, 8, 12, and 16 that have been worn by at least eight children and are being saved now for future grandchildren. The 4 and the 16 are 25 years old. The others were bought over about 8 years. Some of them aren't so pretty anymore but they are still going strong. Spent an awful lot of time on little boys and girls in the shop, the field, in grain trucks and crawling around doing childhood stuff.

OK,, guys I think I may win! My dad brought a carrhart jacket in the 1960's to hunt in. (It is lined) He did not wear it much, hung in the closet. He has since past away. But now my son wears it to work. So I am thinking it is about 46 years old and is in great shape.

Mine's a baby - maybe 5 years old? Good jacket, wears like iron. Gotta say, though, that I really like my hooded Dickies jacket a lot, too.

Mines a baby to i guess, this is it's 5th winter and only a couple minor snags on the arms from thick black berry brambles. Last one went 11 years so I'd guess the new ones almost an adult now. lol
Don't care for the bib's, they just don't fit me right. IMHO Their coats are great to say the least! Hope like heck they don't knock off to china and drop the quality like the pants have gotten to today... not to mention even more jobs lost to our people!

Got a jacket in 2000 that I wore almost 24/7. Mom got me a new one two years ago for Christmas, it did not last the year. Back to wearing the old faded one and it is going strong. New one had thinner fabric and ripped real easily. Both had red liner, and looked the same other wise.

I know that my Dad's old Carrhart jacket has a totally different feel to it than the new ones.. His almost feels like that old canvas they used to make tents out of. Very strong stuff.

Mine is 7. I just purchased her successor this year. But I am not putting her out to pasture just yet, she is simply getting a winter off for repairs.

I wore mine from 1986 until 2004, when I was attacked by my neighbor's dogs and it was shredded. To this day I say it saved my life! I took my blind old dog outside (on my property) to pee pee only to get jumped by pit bulls and sheppards. Lucky for my neighbor he works for the sherrif's dept and no charges were brought up on him. All I lost was my dear dog and my Carhart! Ahhhh Texas justice!!!
