Sounds humorously familiar.
I know I'm having a good season when my body is worn from lack of sleep (boiling off 24/7) and the kids, who love maple season, start talking about how nice it will be to be pulling weeds, instead.
How many acres worth of trees do you tap, Max ?

Are you familiar with Spring Hill Camp ?
They have a gorgeous hard maple forest a couple miles north and west of Evart.

The sap has been flowing good here in central Maine. I only have 60 taps this year but already have about 10 gal. and the season should go for a few more weeks, as we still have snow and cold nights.
I want to make a better evaporator pan and was wondering if anyone has ever heard of a pan made of copper? I know stainless is the best, but I have a 3'x8' sheet of copper I could fold into a nice 2'x3' pan with angle iron frame to keep it more ridged. Has anyone used a copper pan? and if so how did it work out? just curious to know the pro's and cons before I go ahead and make this thing

I am done. (Next year I am NOT boiling down in a turkey fryer! We will definitely get a 'real' set-up).
Just have to wash everything up, but the sap is finally all boiled down. Pulled taps earlier in the week.
I started with 2 taps at the beginning of March, then added a few more and a few more until I had 14 in on March 14th.
Rough estimate of sap collected: 115 gallons
Syrup produced: 2 gallons, 6 pts, one 1/2 pt, and about 3/4 cup in a container in the fridge!
I am a happy camper

We're collecting the last of the sap this week. DH and DS will boil down Friday and maybe Saturday if we get 4 or more barrels of sap

As of yesterday morning about 50% of our woods was still covered with snow.
This morning it's about 25% covered with snow.
Predicting 70 degrees tommorrow ~~~ Looks as if our season is over.
Roughly 1000 gallons of sap collected.

Our two half-gallons arrived, yesterday!
One sprung a very slight leak (it looked as though the postal service's rugby team got hold of the package). The pretty blue handkerchiefs you packed for padding easily soaked up the table spoon or so that squeaked out.
Won't I be the dapper one as I go through my day with one of those fashionable, maple-scented accessories stuffed into my shirt pocket? I'll probably have to be at the height of my resistance to spurn all the young ladies who saddle up beside me and murmur, "Mmmmmmm! Wanna make some pancakes?"
And, I'm king of the household, again as everyone looks at the jugs wistfully and asks, "Dad, can we have some of your maple syrup?)
Thank you so very much, Max!
