Here's just a few things you can do with coffee cans.

They can be soldered together to make thin walled 'pipe' which you can use for several things. Solar heaters, vent pipe, gutter pipe, etc.

You can split and flatten them and use the metal for lots of projects. Patching all kinds of things, metal shingles, metal siding and the like.

You can make candle holder/lanterns with reflectors out of them. Easy to do but takes a while to tell you how. Let me know if you want instructions. If you want a really long lasting one leave about a 2" rim on bottom, fill with wax and add a wick.

Filled with something heavy (sand, concrete etc) they make good door stops and weights in the shop when you are gluing something big.

Cut the bottoms out and bury next to a plant when you water all you need to do is full the can. It will allow the water to slowly be absorbed by the soil near the roots.

Attach it horizontally to a post in the garden to keep gloves, tools and such like.

Keep a several in the shop. When ever you take something apart you'll have somewhere CLEAN to put the little parts. Put small parts in one, add a little cleaning fluid, shake or swirl and you have a parts cleaner.

Plastic ones are used for storage of brass, either dirty, cleaned, or primed and ready to load. These are the costco folgers ones and are easy to pick up one-handed as they have a built in handle.

Metal ones are used to melt wax over a hot plate for making fire starters, and storing coins.

I also like the costco popcorn and creamer containers for storage of various items.

I store my unused storage containers in mesh ball bags hung from the rafters in the shop. I modified a paint roller handle into a hook, screwed it on an extendable drywall sanding pole and use this to lower and raise the bags so I don't have to get a tall ladder each time.
