I checked out the Jenn-Air's on line today & wasn't impressed with them, didn't even show prices. I really have my heart set on a double oven or an oven & a baking drawer or on that line. When I cook a big holiday meal I never have enough oven space & also the broiler or pan drawer is wasted space for me, I don't use either.

Callieslamb,
What stove do you have now that your canners don't fit on the back burner?

After my parents experience with a new stove I decided to buy an old American made gas unit from an elderly lady that was moving to assisted living. I think nowadays your better off finding old stuff in good condition then wasting money on the poorly made stuff at the stores. Sorry to say it but that's the state of modern manufacturing.

a lighter work on just about any gas stove I have seen, never seen one with a gas cutout when the powers off.
at least stove top,on the ovens have some sort of a thermal couple a lighter works there too, just have to get the thermal couple warm enough to kick the valve over.

Anyone with a source please post it here. Also I know sportsman's guide has a type of water heater but it uses batteries. Look's like a lot more time antique hunting on CL ;-)

I have the JennAir double oven stove. I've had it for two years now. The big burner is in the front, which I like for canning. The top oven is great for broiling and baking small dishes. The lower has convection which I love for cookies, biscuits, etc. The oven is electric, and won't work during a power outage. I use a match to light the stovetop if the power is out.

I haven't had any problems with "falling into" the lower oven. I do make sure that no-one is walking by when I open it up. If you have a bad back, it would definitely be harder to use than a single oven. But then again, using the top one would be much easier.

As far as reliability goes, I haven't had any problems with the stove. My Maytag dishwasher, however, barely lasted past the warranty, and the part cost more than a new dishwasher. The guy that installed my new one (a Kenmore this time) said that you definitely don't want Maytag dishwashers.
