I think it's great---but not for me.
I have a cheap Net 10 cell phone. No camera, just a phone. It will text, but I don't know how, nor am I willing to burn up my minutes with doing so. Same for dh... we both need a cell phone, but I don't need a computer/communications device/entertainment center/babysitter that fits in my palm. I just need a cell phone. Kids are too young yet for all that stuff.
I check email about once a week. No x boxes, playstations or wees, no Iphones, pads or tunes, no kindles or other book reading devices. If I want tunes, we have a radio and a stereo/cd player; if I want to read, we have books and magazines. No facebook, texting, tweeting, or tooting.
Yeah, boo, hiss, we live under a rock. For some reason, I just don't care about keeping up with technology. I tihink it's great for those who enjoy it. I guess I just dont' enjoy it....

+1! Ditto here. But don't post something like this down in the computer forum. I got clobbered just for wanting to stick with Windows XP and Outlook Express instead of the "newer and better" computers. I do have a cell phone, but it's a plain jane and only for emergencies. Why have all those new gadgets that keep you in constant contact with others? I enjoy my privacy and quiet time too much to allow those kinds of intrusions.

There are times when I don't want to hear ANY white noise. Nothing. I want total silence apart from what is natural, birds, listening to a river etc.
I surely do not understand those that have to have a tv blaring all day long or music playing.

I alternate. Some days I am "off line" and some days I check everything several times. I love technology and find it most useful. I also love silence and nature and the outdoors and try to find a balance in my life.
In my view, when technology interferes with someone living a Life, then it is a problem. Otherwise, technology can enhance a healthy lifestyle.

I am very addicted to high tech. But then when a person is disabled because of severe RA, it is my entertainment. I have a HDTV, Bluray DVD, a Wii game I use quite a bit for some exercise, and of course this computer which is my 3rd one now in 14 years, a IMac. And being I don;t have to get up at any certain time, many times I have even falling asleep with the TV on.
And if I don't have the TV on there is a radio playing all night long by my bed.
And if not the TV gets turned on early and stays on as long as I am home all day till who knows at night midnight? It is like having somebody here with the TV on and hearing talking all day along.
I do not have any of the newest things, no Iphone, no Ipad, No MP3 player, not even a digital camera Cell phone just for emergencies and then only when driving.
But i do like to watch movies in full sound surround.

i also use it for my entertainment, but for A LOT of education. i learn so much from online places
i learned in my camper that quiet is nice. so now i do mroe of that when the family is gone. sometimes i 'force' it on them too! lol!
but, i can get tied up in tv at times and then i feel terrible. terrible for wasting my time, my day, my energy is drained. blah. altho its fun to watch a few programs or a good movie, having it off most of the time is better for me.
my cell is a tracphone, as is both my kids'. dont' need a fancy one at all, i am home 90% of the time.
i think it is only an addiction if you are neglecting another part of your life--kids hungry but you are on the next level in a game? problem! you're wondering how best to plant a raised bed garden by next month, and house is clean, kids fed, well, no problem!!
if it weren't for internet resourses, i'd have been out of goats by now, given up on gardening, and many things for our house wouldn't have been as good or easy or cheap. i do tons of my own type of research and i think it improves me life tremendously. but i still shut down, and go do something.

I just have a regular cell phone but I'm saving up for an iphone. I have slow, unreliable dialup internet so it will be an improvement, plus the street map app, plus other things. I only used 9 minutes of airtime last month plus about a dozen text messages in and out so my cellphone usage isn't much but it was nice to have when my car broke down last Thursday and I was able to call CAA and my brother to pick me up.
I have a tv aerial and get four channels which is fine for me. Those four channels have some shows I like to watch plus the news, plus it's free which is my favourite price!. Most other members of my family and friends have the 500 channel packages and so many of the channels are duplicates or off air that you don't actually have 500 channels to watch.
I don't understand about people listening to music on an earpiece or watching a movie on a small hand held device. I like to listen to my music on my big stereo and watch movies on my tv with the surround sound system. Plus, when I'm out and about I like to look around and enjoy the scenery, not to mention being aware of someone approaching me from behind or the car about to hit me because I'm not paying attention.
Like everything else, it's good in moderation. You want to have a couple of drinks, enjoy! If you want to have 20 drinks, you might have a problem. If you find technology useful, that's great, if the house is filthy, kids and animals aren't fed and you haven't been to work for two days because you can't get off the computer/crackberry/gaming system then I suspect there might be an issue!

I'm kinda like this too. But it's more that I'm active than "hard labor". I do feel guilty with all the time I spend here. I visit a few sites many times a day...HT, Email, Weather and Facebook.
And what Chewi was saying about all the learning...I could never live this lifestyle without all the info I get off the internet. It also adds a social aspect to my life that would not exist without the computer.
Sounds kinda sick but I am only seeing benefits except for the time spent. Time is such an insidious illusion.
