When its 10 degrees and snow falling, I look around and I see the wood shed full, the pantry is full of foods I canned from my organic garden, The freezer full of venison and free ranged chickens we raised for eating. I have enough food and heat for the winter, all because of my land and health, who could ask for more.

When we have been away from our Homestead for a few days, upon my return, I go immediately to the kitchen faucet and let it run for a few minutes. Then, I fill up a glass and drink it and sigh. It is cold fresh spring water with no chemicals and no junk or stuff in it.......just pure clean cold water. In that moment, I realize how awesome my Homestead is.

The times I love the most are when I got outside in the evening to view the most awesome red sunsets.

When I see my Appy out grazing in the pasture with tail busy flicking flies.

The smell of the fireplace inside and the warmth it gives.

Seeing one of the dogs warming herself laying right in front of the stove.

Watching the bees from the hives visiting all the flowers.

Sinking my hands into warm soil for the first time each spring.

Watching the huge Thunderheads that roll in each spring and hear the thunder and see the lightning across the tops of the hills.

The smell of the rain.

The ice storms that come through turning everything into a world of blown glass.

The smell of the rabbits when I walk into the rabbit building.

Watching the chickens chase bugs across the yard.

Spring time and all the new baby critters that come with it.

The smell of the hayfields in June.

The sweet smell of alfalfa bales.

And my favorite of all? The smell when I bury my nose in my horses neck and breathe in.

Watching five deer cross the farm from the kitchen.....
Three cords of seasoned split wood.....cut and split myself right here...
Fresh cool well water....fresh air too.....
My pups at the door at daylight ready to see who visited last night....
Cows and calves grazing.....
Days here that I don't have to go anywhere.....
Woodstove going when it is cold...and it is naptime with my pups....
This land providing meals.....
