Don't be afraid to experiment with different kinds of wood. Nearly any hardwood works great! It doesn't have to be small wood either. I'll take a plastic tarp and a couple saw horses, lay a log across and saw disks off it with a chainsaw. Then just gather up the chips and disks in the tarp and you'll have lots more smoking wood.
