Skunk droppings would be fairly large probably over an inch long.

A picture would help a lot.

In the fall the skunks dig out the ground nesting yellow jacket nests. The hole is wallowed out and the grass is flattened all the way around the hole.

If it's a conical (volcano) shaped hole, it's ant-lions, doodle bugs, or beetles.

If it's a little pile of dirt next to the hole, it's an animal that has been digging in there.

If you tap lightly on the ground next to one and something comes out to investigate, then it's likely to be some kind of insect hoping for prey to fall in their trap. Kinda like the Sarlac from Star Wars the Empire Strikes Back - but on a small scale.

Fall in the sarlac pit and be slowly digested over a period of 3 thousand years!

i'm leaning toward skunks since this morning early I could smell them...also the poop seems the right size for them...

interesting about ant lions, my son had one as a 'pet'.....that he fed for awhile...they are very cool too know about....

I will try to get a photo and post it...just for the curious...thanks for all thoughts on this...
