Milk is still $3.19 around here. I did have sticker shock though when I saw bacon for around $6/lb!

Meijer--Kalamazoo $2.00/gal for any percent last two weeks. Dean's is about $1.75 higher(if I remember right....)
The Deans display has crowded out the grass-fed milk--even the half gallons which were usually about $3.50 to $4.00 per half gallon.....That stuff sure tasted good....
(But I don't want to keep a cow or goat....)
Here's something to help you fall asleep at night.(Or if you fully understand it, it may keep you awake all night--it does that to the dairy farmers....) http://www.midmddairyvets.com/docs/MilkPricingWisc.pdf
What a labyrinth!

2.28 at Walmart, 3.29 at Krogers in Brownwood -- prices have been stable for months. About once a month the local IGA has it on sale 2/$4.00. Heavy cream prices have risen, though. Walmart now $1.78, up from 1.67 a couple of months ago. Krogers has also risen, but can't remember how much. I only buy butter on sale ($1.99 at Krogers several weeks ago--I stocked up).

Commodities always fluctuate in price...it's good to keep on yer toes and know prices so you can get the best deals....
Someone mentioned bacon...pork prices skyrocketed not long ago...same lb of bacon I bought at most markets for $2.50 now sells for almost $4. Local store had bacon ( my brand too ) as a loss leader of 2.97 a lb...best price in town.
I don't much look at milk prices as we squeeze our goats for it here...but butter is crazy too..just recently at Aldi I could get a lb for $1.69..now it's over $2.50 everywhere.

Heck, even the powdered around here is the same price (when mixed) per gallon. Just got back from the store; 2%milk $3.49, Keller's butter, 1lb $3.49, sugar, 4 pounds $2.69, rice $.79 per pound, canned pizza sauce 15 oz. $0.33 (yeah, I cleaned them out, kids love it).

Price fluctuates greatly, one week over $4 next week $3. For laughs find out where your milk is actually coming from.

Can buy Hannaford brand milk for $3.15 here in Vermont, but I ordinarily buy our local Monument Farms (2 towns away) brand milk for $3.95. They are HUGE supporters of ag education (my last job) and they buy a lot from the auto parts store where I work now, which earns me sales commision, so I gladly pay a little more their dairy products

My husband tells me I was wrong about the price of milk here in NE Texas - it was $4.35 a gallon. I was thinking of the prices at home. Yes, butter is outrageous.
I'm not sure why, but food is higher here in NE Texas, than it is in Central Texas - everything.

I buy organic milk - it is $5.69 a gallon.
Why would you buy chemical and hormone laden white stuff for $2 a gallon when you can get real nutrition without the carcinogens and hormone wonkifiers?

Well it's raw milk from a farmer across the state line in SC. I know the guy who delivers it adds an upcharge but since my *$&#^ chickens aren't laying I have to pick up eggs from him anyhow and I just pay the $2/gal extra to keep from having to drive and hour north for eggs and and hour south for milk. Just outside of Charlotte.

I'm just not willing to go that route without having an "emergency milker" available so have reluctantly decided it simply isn't an option.

My hubby can't milk our goats to save his soul. However there are several non-electric milkers that are pretty easy to use in a pinch. A couple of them that I have come across are the " Udderly EZ" and the other is the " Henry Milker"
Sounds like you both might be more comfortable with a mini breed or a good milking Nigerian. Nigerians have the highest butter fat of all the dairy breeds and it is possible to make butter from their milk without having to use a cream separator.

Store brands of milk around here is over $3 a gallon. Name brands are over $4 (but an Aldi's is going to open and they said their milk is going to be cheaper).
I get milk from a local farm. It's in glass jars and costs $2.49 for a half gallon.

I just bought 3 gallons yesterday, and at 2.75, which has been the same price now for quite a spell.

In my part of Canada -- and several other parts I've been to recently -- a HALF gallon of milk (2 litres) is $4.
Consider yourselves lucky. I couldn't imagine paying $0.99 for a gallon. How on earth do you produce a gallon of milk, commercially, for $0.99?

It's probably a loss leader for the store. They probably pay twice that for it.

I am in Pa and I pay about 3.69 a gallon for the cheapest store brand. My kids drink between 3-4 gallons a week, so I wish I could get it for less. Sometimes we drive out to the military commissary in Oakdale and I can get it there for $2.60. When I go there, I buy a few and freeze them.

Obviously you can't and you probably can't actually produce transport refrigerate and market it for under $4 and be profitable if that. But we like to believe in a free market, it makes us feel good.
