Yes - I agree - just stay out of the GChat area! I used to go there and read but it was not for me. Just stay on HT and go to the sections that you like. HT is a very helpful place and most people are friendly. Just ignore the rest. Sometimes I get replies to my threads/comments and I have to read it and read it and if I don't like what someone said, I just leave it alone and ignore it. But - the comments and good information does out-weight the bad and so it is worth it.

Sometimes I "take a break" for a while and then come back. Most people here are good neighbors and will give you good information and ideas. Have a good rest of the week.

Just reviewing FACTS here. A forum user makes two posts and only gets one response and that is in agreement with him. He then makes a post "goodbye cruel world" and how terrible the people are "down there" in GC. The only member who made a direct post at this user was Angie.

In my world I call this a tempest in a teapot. And where do people get off condemning other people when they are not willing to investigate FACTS?

Palani,review your "facts".

Tamsam, Glad you came back to read your thread. Don't let the GC stuff get you down. It's amazing how it can wear on you especially when it's in print and there to be read over and over.

HUH? Many folk are just saying stay out of general chat and you will be ok. Tamsam is a long time member here and well liked. We want him to stay!

I have. Nobody objected to what he wrote in GC. It is as if he was judge and jury and sentenced himself.

I have no objection if he goes or stays. I am saying don't slam other people in the process. Go review the thread in question yourself and try to visualize what was written that was so upsetting to him. I could find nothing. Maybe you can.

For the record I made no posts on the thread in question. Maybe I am at fault for not responding when I could find nothing worthy of a response? Am I being condemned because of a failure to post?

Tamsam, I'm glad you decided to stay.

I am usually pretty particular which forums I go to (and very very rarely is GC one of those!). Just like in real life, I've learned to take some personalities with a grain of salt, and just generally avoid others.

I will not argue with you nor will I respond again to you. What was written by the op and so many agreed with him was, ANYONE on gov help is welfare and after a certain time become MOOCHERS. Go back a reread those words and maybe you will understand. In my eyes that makes me and any other person who can not work MOOCHERS if we receive help from the Gov. I di decide to stay and the ignore button is in use. Sam

Ok. I believe I see the light. In your first post on that thread you identified yourself (rightly or wrongly) as a moocher using others comments and nobody chose to argue you out of this classification.

As I am now ignored then I choose to not discuss this with myself further.

I just read the thread in question myself Sam and it was pretty schizophrenic. From what I gather, people on welfare drive Escalades, have IPhones, and should be put into forced labor camps and their kids taken away or they cant get welfare because their car is too valuable and that child care is either not available or "as everyone knows its free"!

Folks are just venting and though there are abuses in every system I know I sure dont worry about that some of the little taxes I pay end up helping people. Kind of amazing that the IRS says that almost half of the citizens in this country pay zero net income taxes yet so many post about how much they are all paying to support the welfare users; they must be making a heck of a lot of money for homesteaders.

I really didnt see many folks attacking you directly but I can see how it would feel personal with all of the moocher comments etc. We are very fortunate in our lifes circumstances and we know it at our little place but for providence it could have been very different. I know folks in my neck of the woods are really struggling and no one drives Escalades or lives in fancy places; its actually heart breaking to see the depth of the poverty around here at times. Just avoid those type of posts, your not going to change anyones mind but I bet these same people would give you the shirt off their backs if they saw you in need. Its just a general distrust of what has and is happening right now.

I can see where Sam would feel attacked. Many of us don't share everything that we're going through- either because we're not as private here as we'd like to be, or because some people just don't tell everything. Even though the world at large may not know you're dealin' with what you're dealin' with (or even if it's a close family member, doesn't have to be a poster here)- it still stings to read that many people lump those on assistance into one group, without a thought to circumstances.
I know i've read some posts degrading on people who do/don't do certain things and yeah, i've felt threatened- because for whatever reason, I fit that group at that time.

Glad you decided to reconsider, Sam.

I have. And believe me, General Chat at Homesteading Today is incredibly tame and nice compared to GC-type boards on some forums.

Yep. I go to GC KNOWING that I will be insulted, abused, and run over. But since I took myself there on purpose, I can't complain. On those occasions when a thread gets too upsetting, I just leave that topic.

I don't think you can say "most" here fill that way. There are hundreds of posters here and some don't even go over to General Chat. And there is a note about "wearing your flame proof undies" over there - some people are just brutal.

Don't leave because of that, just avoid GC and post on all the other forums!

Hey, Tamsam, don't leave on account of a few vocal people-- I just ran over to GC, and didnt read half of the replies. Count up the replies, then count up the amount of people on here who DIDNT reply!
I didnt say anything--and from his/her first post on the subject, I think Ar.K. made the most sense.
Just chalk it up to the times-and a few bitter people.

I read GC when I think my blood pressure is too low and needs a jolt..LOL..IMHO, Sam, there are many more jerks online than in real life..why? Because they can act like jerks and not risk being punched in the nose for it..I'm very happy that none of the bitter, angry people are my neighbors or worse, my relatives!!

I agree with you 100% responding to such posts, as that one, does make the whole thread go down hill, and is why some, most often then not, get moved to GC. Some just have to learn to "leave some threads alone" when they are backed into a corner.
