Since we only have a dog, there are lots of animals we want to have once we move to the country. But one animal I would love to have, but never will, is a giraffe.

Many years ago, I was at a zoo. The giraffes had eaten all the low hanging limbs from from a tree and were near the wall where we were watching them and reaching as high as they could to get what leaves they could still reach. Unthinking, I broke off a twig with a few leaves on it that was on my side, and held it out to them. Much to my surprise, it reached over and took it from my hand.

It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Completely silent, slow and graceful. It's head was about 3 feet long, and 2 feet wide. But most amazing were its gentle and I swear intelligent looking eyes, which were the size of the palm of my hand.

Always wished I could have a giraffe after that.

And yes, I know don't feed the animals. What can I say, I was young and foolish.

i want birds, but our cats are just too powerful, they take down full size rabbits and large birds..so nope..no birds..also would like to raise a beef ..and put him in the freezer in the fall, but haven't got any fencing right now and it would cost more than the beef right now...and can't really afford the processing either. Would like to have milk animal if i didn't have to do the milking..i have really bad grip problems with both of my hands...due to dual carpal tunnel surgery and poly perepherial neuropathy

I'd like to have chickens, silver fox rabbits, and bees. Our village does not allow chickens. I'm trying to convince hubby to agree to rabbits and bees. He's more tender-hearted than I am. He's also worried about our very inquisitive and impulsive 2 year old with the bees, which is probably a valid concern. Maybe in another year or so....

peafowl, highland cattle, sheep (oh, to not have to MOW!!!) Bees, llamas or alpacas look neat, I want to play with a chinchilla. I miss ferretts, but don't miss the smell.
Um, my bunnies may want company. DH hasn't talked me into a cow or pigs yet, but he's trying!

More? I like animals darnit, I'd like a whole lot more of them. :P Don't wanna have to go out and feed and water when it's cold out tho. So I guess I'll stick with what I have!

Well, since I'm getting my ND goats on Saturday, I have often thought about pot bellied pigs, but not sure how well my neighbors would like that. They love the goats and chickens though, so who knows. I've been knocking around the idea of bees, but need to do a lot more research before even thinking seriously about them.

Wish List:

Chickens, with a coop, and fence.
Goats, for milking.
Once I have mastered the art of raising birds for eggs and meat, learning all aspects of their health, and butchering.......and understand the goats health and breeding, milking and making cheese, soap, and whatever else I can with a goat.....
2 cows. One for milk, and one for meat.

I had a squirrel monkey when I was a kid. Fun to play with, but they can be mean too, and nasty.

What kind of bugs do guineas eat? I've always heard of people keeping them for bugs.

1. Bucks (to breed our goats)
2. A few more does (we LOVE goat milk)
2. Meat Rabbits
3. Brown Swiss Cow (for milk and to raise a steer)
4. Possibly turkeys
5. Breeder pigs (maybe)--instead of just raising feeders
